The iPhone has to sit close to windshield, otherwise you will loose accuracy.

OMG. Talk about risk averse lawyers/insurers running amuck. Having your iPhone mount come off during a session and actually cause a crash which they would be liable for is like 3 standard deviations out.

I don't know of any, sorry.

Super retard question time: Can anyone throw me a link to the iPhone 4 TomTom attachment? I only seem to be running into iPhone 3GS versions right now for some reason. Or is there no iPhone 4 attachment and the internal GPS works fine?

Don't worry, the dock works fine for both. There is a little spacer inside for the Iphone 4 to fit the cradle better. I found that it works without it if I leave my cover on since its about the same thickness as the spacer.

Used it over the weekend to record laptimes and do some video. Its annoying that it only records every second lap but at least it does acquire the info from every lap (see cool PDF file below).

I did not have brake pads for my M3 so I took a bonestock S4 and recorded.

Heres a lap with me chasing down a BMW 1M.

and here is me behind my friend with the same exhaust as me... I called this music to my ears and you should listen to it with volume UP!

and heres a PDF of my fastest lap of 2:05 at Le Circuit Mont Tremblant from Harry's Laptimer. Really shows me how SLOW im taing turns 1 ,2 and 3...

HLT does not record speed correctly for some reason, especially with rapid speed changes and turns - maybe an interpolation issue or issues with elevation change (it may be measuring horizontal speed only) or just a glitch. I used it with an external 5Hz GPS logger, which is accurate by itself, and then overlaid the data on video and it was clear that sometimes the car was accelerating but the displayed speed was going down.

Are you using a 4g with the TomTom cradle? I would say it's very accurate as I looked at my speedo and 195 down the back straight is correct and so is the low 117 or so at turn 1. I'd say it's accurate for me.

Also had a very strong signal.

Doesn't sound like it, I believe TomTom only has a 1Hz rate. MaxL, is your 5Hz listed in the list of compatible GPS tools on Harry's site?

last time I looked, you had to jailbreak your iPhone to be able install a Bluetooth stack to support the 5Hz GPS modules. 5Hz would be sweet since you could hopefully get a more more usable version of your line.

Looks like you didn't overlay the data log onto the video? It'd look better with the overlay.

Exactly, jailbroken iPhone plus external Bluetooth GPS data-logger. Everything accurate except for speed. It seems that speed accuracy issue is related to elevation changes, though - e.g. when I'm accelerating and the track starts to slope downhill or uphill, it believes that the speed decreases.

Anyone use the newest version 14 yet? Looks like it became available just a few days ago- Sept. 2. Looks like a lot of functional improvements. Also noticed ORP is on the track list which wasn't before, so I'm going to use it next weekend!

The Tom Tom is compatible and works with HLT. There is info in this thread that covers what is compatible or not. The info is on the Harry's Lap Timer web site.
