Damn Hail!!!

This evening for about 10 minutes we had golf ball sized hail come slamming down!

I now have about 50 dings in my car, some the size of a quarter but most the size of a dime. It's bad but I have seen pictures of cars in much worse shape. Please someone tell me this can be fixed by the Dealer?

Thank you.

Depends if the dealer also has an auto body shop. Best bet would be to look for a reputable independent repair shop. Also before you do anything consult with a paintless dent remover as you'd be surprised at the things some of them could achieve

^ Good idea, paintless dent remover. My Dealer has a Body Shop (a good one) and I'll speak to them about that tomorrow. Thank you!

If they are smooth and symmetrical then they can probably be removed by a good paint-less guy. I had a pretty ugly door ding in my old car and when the dent guy was done I honestly couldn't find where the dent was repaired - BUT - It cost me 100 bucks for ONE DENT.

Anybody had any luck pulling dents from aluminum? The hood is what I'm worried about with my hail damage, the half dozen dents I have in my roof are probably no problem for a PDR guy

This is why body panels should be made from carbon fiber..

That's great until the hailstones get big enough to shatter them! CFRP appears to be where it's at, my front fenders are totally clear of damage, and I bet the OP's are too

It would take a hail of a stone to bust high quality carbon fiber..

Thanks everyone - I'll keep you posted. I expect to hear today from the Dealer's Body Shop Manager.

Yes, just the hood, roof and trunk are damaged, the fenders, etc are not.

My M3 is not a DD so the ONE time I take it out - ARGH!

Tell me about it. I normally take my truck when it looks like the end of the world is coming, but I hadn't driven the M3 in two weeks due to travel so I took it thinking I'd be able to make it from work to the next garage if anything came up. Nope

Sucks man! I have had it happen to me numerous times before. I'm on a constant paranoid hail mode this time of the year. I don't even drive my car if there is like a 20% chance of storms.

OP:

PDR guys can do amazing work as long as they can get to the dent from underneath the surface. There are a few other tricks, but if the dent is in a tight spot... I hate to say it... but there's only so much they can do. You have a nice investment and I feel for you. I've had four cars get whacked in my driving career... it's a total nightmare especially if yer in the car when it's going down. Get well soon.

Does "able to get to it" include having to remove the headliner? Because in that case I don't have anything tough to get to, a-pillars and window frames are all ok, all the side panels are ok, etc. Only thing I'm worried about is that damn hood.

Richbot: Sorry to hear you're also in the House of Pain!

My BMW Dealer recommended a PDR Company and told me to just call them directly to save $.

Insurance Company is having an Adjuster check it out. I have a $50 deductible. Anybody have advice as to what I can expect? Believe it or not, I've been driving for 34 years and never had a claim.

Thanks everyone else for your comments and advice!

Sorry to hear this happen...same thing just happened to my friends e90 on thursday. Luckily I was parked in my garage.
What if insurance gave you the money to fix and you went with aftermarket parts? (carbon fiber) then painted that

Update:
61 dings on Hood. 82 dings on Roof. 21 on Trunk lid.

PDR guy says Roof and Hood need to be replaced. Trunk repairable. Further said he has rec'd 100 cars to do in the last 2 days!

Now up to Insurance Adjuster.

I'm just sick!

Since Golf Balls have dimples for speed and lowered wind resistance, I'm going to consider this my newest performance modification. I should expect faster track times next week at NJMP.
