M2 didn't do it for me, what to get while saving for a Cayman GT4?

After falling in love with the DCT M2 i first drove back in 2016, I was stupid enough to buy a manual because 'proper drivers choice'.
Didn't bond with the car at all and also got bored of lbb in some way, wished for MG DCT in the end.
Car is now sold and one obviously needs a car! Since Cayman GT4 is the absolute dream and I have a fantastic chance to save up some cash I would like a kind of hothatch in the 5-10k bracket.
Cars I've been considering are Golf gti mk5/6, focus st 2.5t, mazda 3 mps and also some stationwagons(Sweden loves stationwagons) like saab 9-3 aero, volvo estates with 5pots etc.

My history of cars are:
2004 Volvo s60r auto
2002 Bmw m3 e46 mt
2007 Saab 9-3 v6 auto
2018 Bmw m2 mt

My girlfriend just bought out our lease which is a 2016 Volvo v40 t5 carbon edition, a sort of golf gti rival with decent power and a decent gearbox, it gives me more joy than my m2 ever did, so could also jump into something like the Golf gti Clubsport.

Something practical, fast, manual or dualclutch/fast auto, can be driven wintertime, would like your help guys! All experiences are welcome, what else could I get?

Well being that this is a BMW forum, I would recommend a used e9x car to hold you over till you get something you want. You can pick up super clean 328i's, manual even, for under $10k.

Be careful though you might get bit by the e90 bug.

328i were never sold in Sweden I'm afraid! But there are 3.0 325i/330i which would be interesting especially in Stationwagon form! Might try out a e90 m3 and absolutley love it?
I was about to buy a m3 e46 comp manual but it looks like its been sold, god I loved m3 e46!

E46 Compact 325i if you can get your hands on one

Other than that, Mk5 Edition 30 are getting affordable here in Germany, they might hit the bottom of their value-curve soon and have better resale value than an ordinary Mk5 GTI.
At 5-10k, Mk6 would be quite a stretch imho.

E9x 330(x)i was already mentioned. Old V70 R would also be something nice!

E46 M3 off that list, but if you like the Volvo, try a Mazdaspeed6 or Mazdaspeed3

I second this, I may be biased being a E91 owner. Love my Wagon! Can you get the 335 Wagon in Sweden? Those are the bomb! Wish we had them here in US.

As for the other choices....I like the “Hot Hatches”. I believe the Focus ST you are referring to is 370hp! That’s s shit ton for that size car. Also the Mazda Speed3 is a good option.

On a total side note, I just watched “The Straight Pipes” episode on the Honda Civic Type R. They gave it serious high marks. Looks like a blast to drive. Not sure if you can get that in Sweden tho.

If you didn’t like the M2 because it was a manual, it seems odd to try to get into a GT4, no?

I'd argue that Porsche builds delightfully better manuals and that manuals are much more fun with naturally aspirated motors. But that's just my take, the OP has their own reasons.

I daily a Fiesta ST, so that would be my choice. Although we don't get the new generation here in the US, I've only read good things about the new 3 cylinder turbo motor.

How someone can get bored in a MT M2 is beyond me.

If it was just to hold me over, a GTI would be my choice. In fact, I think it's up there near the top of the list for a practical but fun, as well as attractive/comfy, car.

Loved my manual m3 e46 and basically every other manual I've driven.
I couldn't have a car that costs 50k+ that I'm not able to drive smoothly!

BMW have lost it IMO, M4 DCT is massivly quick but it is heavy and biiiig!
M2 dct in mg is an option if I wanna slow down cayman dreams .

It's not that the M2 is a boring car, I just didn't enjoy all the fakery, the over exaggerated pops and bangs, I mean in sport+ it's just toooooo much computers deciding how it sounds, give me a clean 8k rpm scream instead.
Thank you all for your imputs!
Have to testdrive a e91 335i, ultimate allrounder!

You need a 1M in your life, man. I agree with you about all the computers in the current cars they lack feel. Totally know what you mean...

Damn right! Another part of selling m2 is that I dont really need a car since I just moved to walking distance from work, and the m2 didnt deliver during spirited runs, maybe the 1m will?
