what year M3 to buy???
If you were moving from a 335 to the M3 with the intent on buying pre-owned and modding the ever loving hell out of the M3...what year M3 would you purchase? Why?

If price wasn't a big deal, there are a bunch of 2011 ZCPcoupes hanging out there in the preowned market.
If price is a big deal, buy a 2008 bare-bones m3 for around 42-45 and save 10-15k. |

I'm very into the most current tech possible. The 2011 has alot of nice upgrades that I wouldn't want to live without.
Having said that, it all depends on your focus. You can go fully-loaded with a slightly used 2011 with DCT. Or you could go barebones 2008 6MT with no navi and save your money for modding the hell out of it. The i-Drive upgrade that happened in 2010 was a big improvement over the old 08-09 design, but the internal upgrades have been incrementally getting better every year.

Newer is better, but if it was between say an '09 and '10, I'd choose the one with less miles.
If you're going to mod it, you can forego options like ZCP and maybe tech. |

The iDrive update happened in 2009 with the LCI update on the E90.

I got an 08 E90 last week with under 21k miles that was well equipped (Jerez Black, Premium, Technology, Heated Seats, iPod, HD radio, enhanced premium sound) for cheaper than you are claiming the barebones version to be.

Get an 09. Most likely the cheaper alternative to the 10/11s and has the updated iDrive. I think the updated iDrive knob makes a huge difference. And I've tried both!
You can use the money saved from the 10/11s and buy yourself some sweet upgrades.

I agree with what others have said. Get an 09 with the options you want and you'll still save alot of money to get some good mods on your car.

Modifying a 2004 CSL or 1995 LTW would be unacceptable, so I'd go with a 2005 or 2006 ZCP.
