No.

Same as 2009-2012. Unless you order BMW Apps, of course. Then you'll have the Apps feature.

Same one except the software version will be based off of ISTA/P 46.3 which resolves some issues with the snap-in cradle/baseplate.

We don't get the new beautifully skinned menus and navigation of the F series. I haven't done much research into this, but I'm praying the change is only software based so I can retrofit it to the older ones

This is actually a very good question... I think it may be possible as I can access the CIC over FTP, however, in the latest versions I don't think the password hashes have been cracked yet for root access to the file system.

I have pulled the HD out of the CIC and imaged it, but need to spend more time on mounting it to poke through what's on there. It might turn out to be yet another expensive experiment..

I will try to look into this further as time permits.

That's the USB update that can be downloaded from BMW, or something else? My car is Oct 2011 production.

It seems rather likely that the new iDrive will use the new Nvidia hardware:

Intel processor 1.3Ghz vs Renesas 600Mhz
1Gb RAM vs 512Mb
8Gb flash vs 512Mb
Nvidia graphics vs Fujitsu
200Gb harddisk vs 80Gb

Something else.. They have actually updated the software/operating system portion between ISTA/P 45.1 and 46.3 - this is aside from the Firmware update via USB which certainly resolves a TON of issues.

My car has Apps + cradle, and hasn't given me any issues. Should I pester the dealer for an update next time I go in?

I assume I can't check my version from the iDrive myself, right?

If it ain't broke don't fix it!

I have the version based on 45.1 which is not the latest in my car. I have periodic issues but they are very rare. I'm happy with the way it works.

Thanks Mike. Maybe if they release an update with a better feature, I'll reach out to the dealer or you for an update.
