Hey everyone and thanks for tuning in to another update.

This update takes place in November 2018.

Sky’s dreams were slightly deflated when I found a nail in one of my tires. What’s CRAZY about these tires was that when I purchased the car in April 2018, the car STILL had its original tires from 2007! I guess you could say it’s about time that I replaced the tires, and perfect timing with winter coming up.

I needed tires in a hurry, so I called up Mo@Alphamotorsports to help me source some Winter Tires, specifically Michelin Pilot Alpin PA4s in the following specs:
Front: 235/40/18
Rear: 255/40/18

I then visited my good friends at Touge Tuning to swap my OEM Rims over to the new Winter Tires.

Thank-you Chris@Touge Tuning for fitting me in the always busy schedule! While at Touge Tuning, I also picked up my Weathertech Floor Mats. Thanks Danny@Touge Tuning for helping to load them in the car!

This month I also had Rocco@RMP Motors replace the OEM Throttle Body Actuators with my replacement VDO ones. Rocco is a fantastic guy who is THE BMW Specialist in Ontario, Canada. He will be doing all the work on Sky from this point onward.

That concludes this update; thank-you all for stopping by and stay tuned for what’s next.
Let’s wrap this post up with a picture of one of my favourite E90s…it’s a picture of a mutual friend’s 335i with a full M3 Conversion, sporting an M-Sport bumper, TE37s, and a massive Voltex Euro Wing, that I ABSOLUTELY LOVE:

Hey everyone and thanks for stopping by, this one is super short, but a BIG step in the right direction to perfecting Sky to being the Ultimate Street car!

This update takes place in February 2019.

When I last visited Rocco@RMP, he strongly advised me to replace my OEM Rod Bearings. Reason being because they were never addressed from the previous owner, and the car is at 115,000kms (equivalent to around 70,000 miles).

Prior to purchasing this car, I did thorough research and the Throttle Body Actuators and Rod Bearings were the 2 BIG upgrades that needed to be addressed…looks like I got stuck holding the bag with these costs and not the previous owner…but that’s ok…at least I have peace of mind that they were done under my ownership by one of BMW’s finest specialist hands–Rocco@RMP.

In preparation of the Rod Bearings, I decided to order some replacement Engine Mounts…but not just any engine mounts…I needed the MOST AGGRESSIVE ones available–Turner Motorsport Solid Engine Mounts.

Now I know what you’re thinking, “Alex, you got to be crazy, the NVH is going to be unbearable!” As silly as it may seem to some, YES this is a street car, but my take on it is I want to feel as connected to the car as possible! Vibration is not the end of the world to me, and quite frankly, I personally think people make NVH seem like it’s life or death in terms of being excruciatingly unbearable.

Now because I went with Solid Engine Mounts, I had to pair them up with Turner Motorsport’s Solid Transmission Mounts, as it was recommended; enjoy the pictures:

Side-note, I also ordered some Weathertech Floor Mat Cleaner to always keep my Weathertech mats looking their best:

Very special thank-you goes out to Turner Motorsport!

Be sure to check them out at the following link:

Thank-you all for stopping by, and here’s a couple teasers of what’s coming in the next update:

Great update! The solid mounts scare me haha

I still like to retain the comfort in the cabin, let us know how they actually are when installed!

Welcome back everyone!

This update takes place in Late February 2019.

Let’s jump right into the Interior-side of the car, and talk about the theme I’m aiming for with this car!

Ok so as you may have seen with my Subaru, everything was tastefully done…nothing in excess, but just enough to leave a good taste in your mouth. The theme I had for the Subaru was Carbon Fiber, Titanium, and Grey Stitching. I wanted to avoid as much Red as possible, because I feel like it’s a very harsh colour.

So sticking with a common theme, and Sky’s colour being Silverstone, I’m thinking Sky will have a Blue theme. Thankfully there’s no Red in this car, so the primary focus on the interior will be Blue accents. Of course one of the first things that comes to mind in the interior is the Steering Wheel.

I absolutely love the OEM BMW Performance Steering Wheel, and will be adding it to the car at some point in the near future.

In addition to the BMW Performance Steering Wheel, I also considered Seat Belts, as my OEM ones are quite worn. I turned my attention to a company called Gaphix Design Haus. Tino@Gaphix specializes in Colour-Matched Seat Belts and Harnesses. His belts are FMVSS Compliant, and of course gorgeous on the eyes. I asked Tino to send me a couple samples to identify what would be the closest match to the BMW Performance Steering Wheel. Enjoy the pics:

One of my friends whom you all may follow on Instagram– Lacha “M3AN_S65” was unfortunately selling his Challenge Race X-Pipe due to the wifey not liking the smell of the car.

Good news for me because at the time, the exhaust was Discontinued by Challenge, so I was getting my hands on a Discontinued X-Pipe! Challenge recently decided to start making them again, but it’s not the end of the world, I am still super happy with this purchase.

Special thank-you goes to Lacha for giving me the opportunity to buy his beloved X-Pipe! Trust me when I tell you this, he was very heartbroken he had to sell his X-Pipe, but good news Lacha if you are reading this, their making them again buddy, so you’re good!

Enjoy the pictures:

I’m going to conclude this update with a logo of a local company that I will be consulting for their expertise…no hints on what we’ll be doing, but here you go:

It’s update time!

This update takes place in March 2019.

In case you were wondering what or who Fireball Coatings is, they are a local Coating shop that focuses on Performance Coatings and Powdercoating.

I had consulted them many years ago to do some work on my Subaru Gabby’s Equal Length Headers and Catted Downpipe.

I decided to use them again, and have them Ceramic Coat my recently acquired Challenge Race X-Pipe. This is a totally optional thing to do…it’s definitely not a “must-have” but rather a “nice-to-have.” The purpose of the Ceramic Coat is to reduce thermal surface temperatures and heat transfer, essentially keeping the heat inside the Exhaust Pipe…which in theory should increase horsepower.

The results speak for themselves!

Before:

After:

Special thank-you goes out to Mark@Fireball Coatings for bringing life back into the X-Pipe!

To conclude this update, I want to address one of my ABSOLUTE favourite rims on these cars…TE37s in Magnesium Blue! I saw a couple for sale throughout the month of March. 99% of them were staggered, but ONE set…the UNICORN set, was being sold by Johnny (M3Post Member: “Johnny250”). Johnny’s rare set is literally a BRAND NEW IN BOX set of OG TE37s in Magnesium Blue in the specs 18x10+25 Square Setup!!! It literally doesn’t get much better than that!

Here’s how they look on the car of M3Post Member: “Erickuokwa” :

It’s funny because Eric’s car is Silverstone too with the exact same wheel specs that Johnny is selling, so I literally got to see my dream wheels on my exact same colour car! Who knows what may happen… you’ll have to stay tuned for the next update, and let me tell you that you definitely DON’T WANT TO MISS IT!

In for the update where you have to reinstall all the nuts and bolts on your car that have wiggled loose from the solid motor/trans mounts. Lol

I'm not saying you should get the Mag Blue TEs but you should get the Mag Blue TEs. They would look amazing on your SS.

Also, any more pics of that FD? It looks incredible.

Hey everyone and welcome back to my journal!

This update takes place in March 2019.

I have some really EXCITING news to share with you all. As you all may have seen in my last update, I hinted at the Volk TE37 OGs in Mag Blue. These are by far my favourite rims of all time.

I love the 18x10+25 square setup and later found that it is a unique setup for M3s. In addition, a handful of people have this exact setup due to a group-buy a few years ago.

Well to begin, I saw Johnny (M3Post Member: “Johnny250”) post a brand new set of these wheels on the forums. These were from his personal collection, and he only wanted to sell them locally in California; so unfortunately I wasn’t going to be the lucky owner of these rims.

As sad as I was, I had the feeling of “money burning a hole in my pocket,” so I had to find something else to spend my money on.
I ended up finding a Varis Diffuser for sale from Sam (M3Post Member: “Semp”) in practically brand new condition. I decided to purchase it and quickly noticed that Sam was also living in California. (MY MIND STARTED TO WORK).

My mom always taught me, “You don’t ask, you don’t get.” With anything in life, that statement can apply. So I thought to myself, what if I ask Sam for some help in obtaining my dream wheels.
So I did just that, I asked Sam how far away Johnny lives from him, and it ended up only being 15 minutes away!!
After a nice FaceTime conversation with Sam, he agreed to help me obtain the TE37s.

Gameplan:
  1. Sam goes to pick up the wheels from Johnny.
  2. I purchase both the Varis Diffuser AND the Volk TE37 OGs from Sam.

Well look what showed up!!!

I want to give a very special shoutout to both Johnny and Sam. Thank-you both for all of the support in making this sale happen.

I then felt it was about time to address the Rod Bearings on the M3, as the car has 120,000kms/75,000 miles on it. In addition to the Rod Bearings being replaced, I also had my Ceramic Coated Challenge Race X-Pipe installed to open up the power and sound on the car.

I took Sky to see Rocco@RMP Motors in Toronto to tackle this job. It also gave me an opportunity to assess how the car looks underneath, seeing as the car was driven in the salty Canadian winters for over 10 years.

Please enjoy the pictures.

Thank-you all for stopping by for this update; next we will be focusing on replacing the entire suspension and subframe components as the rust is attacking the car. Stay tuned for that!

Great update! Wow your car must have been driven every winter. My GTA E90 doesn't look nearly as bad. Luckily its just a couple things you need to refresh, the rest is galvanized or aluminum!

Hey everyone and welcome back to my journal.

This update is going to feature some exciting parts that I’ve been dying to share with you all!

Let’s first start off with a brand that’s very dear to me…ARC.

Wait!! Sorry not ARC Wheels…I mean ARC Brazing International!

ARC Brazing International is a renowned Japanese company that makes some of the finest titanium parts in the world. Characterized by their incredible welding, discontinued highly sought after parts that go for Louis Vuitton-like prices, it’s no doubt that they’ve gone in and out of business. Since they’ve returned in the past decade, they’ve really shortened their offerings to just a few popular platforms.

Recently, ARC released a special group-buy for their 6-Speed Manual Shift Plates. Just to give you all some context, these have been discontinued for many years, with some private sellers offering $500USD…yes…you read that right…for used ones. Thankfully Vivid Racing was one of the vendors offering this special group-buy, so I decided to order from them.

So of course, I bought one for my Subaru and one for the M3, because I got to keep it JDM of course!

Please enjoy the pictures:

Moving on, I went to Touge Tuning and had Chris order me a set of Bridgestone Potenza RE-71R Tires in 275/35/18 Square Setup for Sky.

These tires are WIDE… here’s a funny picture of Mike@TougeTuning’s hand, relative to the tire:

I then had my good friend Hamza@GetDetailed Ceramic Coat my TE37 OGs to ensure that wheel cleaning maintenance is hassle-free, especially after a track day:

Finally, I wanted to turn my attention to the Drivetrain components of the M3. As you remember from last post, the entire underside needs a refresh. With the Solid Engine and Transmission Mounts, as M3Post Member: “Shredicus” said, all the nuts and bolts are probably loose from the solid mounts…I figured I might as well really aim to loosen all the nuts and bolts with MORE Solid Mounts.

I decided to turn to (pun intended) Turner Motorsport for their Solid Differential Bushings. Most people avoid this due to the hassle in accessing the rear differential, but I figured at some point I’ll buy a spare subframe to easily install these. These are among the most aggressive options for Rear Diff Bushings, but I’m totally cool with NVH.

Please enjoy the pictures:

I also found a brand new set of Turner Motorsport Rear Subframe Bushings on M3Post from M3Post Member: “username69” who never installed them. I ordered them for a good deal, and I’ll just say that they are very well made.

Please enjoy the pictures:

Thank-you all for checking out my latest update for Sky; of course I can’t leave you all hanging, so please enjoy this teaser of what’s coming:

Thanks for all the love guys!

Hi everyone and welcome back to my journal.

I have a short but exciting update to share with you all, and it involves Dinan.

My good friend Ross (M3Post Member: “Senpai”) was selling his Dinan E90 M3 Exhaust in order to obtain a different exhaust setup.

My other good friend Lacha, (Instagram: "@m3an_s65") had the Challenge Race X-Pipe paired with a Dinan Rear Exhaust on his Stroker Coupe E92 M3, and WOW did that sound incredible! I wanted mine to sound just like Lacha’s so I decided to arrange the details with Ross.

My dad and I made the trek from Toronto to New Jersey to primarily go pick up the exhaust and meet Ross. While in the New York area, my dad and I decided to meet up with Mitch (Instagram: "@mitchhhhhhhh") and check out his 1 of 1 Neptune Blue M3. I will just say this, Mitch’s car is something that everyone needs to see in person to truly appreciate the beautiful exterior colour. Paired with Mitch’s go-fast, race-inspired parts, the car is an all-around masterpiece. Thank-you Mitch for taking the time to grab a bite and hang out with my dad and I.

Back to the exhaust, so we meet with Ross, and my goodness the M3 community here is filled with great people. Ross is such a kind and friendly person that I now consider a good friend of mine. I’m so happy I had the opportunity to meet him and chat with him about his bad*** JDM-inspired M3 #OGTE37Gang.

Ross disclosed that the Dinan exhaust was used and in ok condition. I had already planned a restoration process for the Dinan exhaust, so I was ok with its condition.

Please enjoy the pictures:

I will be sending the Dinan exhaust off to my good friend Mark@Fireball Coatings to perform the sandblasting and thermal ceramic coating of the exhaust, in an effort to bring the Dinan back to life!

Thank-you all for stopping by and checking out this update; and thank-you to Ross and Mitch for taking the time to meet with my dad and I; we made friends for life!

Please enjoy the teaser for next update:

Good stuff!

Post 23 - is that a 335 with M3 body work, or an M3 with a 335 rear bumper? Guessing the former, but that's a lot of money to drop on a 335.

Hey Wyatt,

Correct, it is a 335 with M3 body work...lots of money went into that car!

Welcome back everyone and thank-you for stopping by to this week’s update.

In case you missed the teaser from last update, I have some exciting news to share. Given the current state of Sky’s underside components being for the majority worn and rusted, I was able to find a somewhat better condition subframe for the M3 locally.

Here’s a picture of it:

The reason for me purchasing this is so that I can still drive Sky, while being able to disassemble the spare subframe, send it to Mark@Fireball Coatings, and have him sandblast and powdercoat it. In addition to that, I would also be able to have my suspension components (Turner Motorsport Solid Diff and Subframe Bushings) pressed into the refinished subframe, so that I can save as much time and money as possible, given this new setup eventually being fully prepped and ready for install.

I will first be taking the subframe to my good friends at Touge Tuning to fully disassemble every single bushing and component off of the subframe, to prep it for Mark@Fireball Coatings to work his magic.

I will then be consulting with my friend Brett (M3Post Member:"slicer"), who will be helping me source some of the best suspension components available for the E9X platform. Such brands will include SPL, MSI, Future Classic, Hotchkis, etc. I’m really looking forward to collaborating with Brett and taking Sky to the next level!

Moving on, I wanted to let you all know that my Dinan exhaust is fully finished! Mark@Fireball Coatings brought this Dinan exhaust back to life, just as he did for my Challenge Race X-Pipe! I’ve always been pleased with Mark’s work, he always delivers a quality finish.

For this restoration project, I had Mark sandblast, and coat the exhaust primarily in the silver ceramic coating for heat retention. I wanted to make the exhaust look similar to how it came from Dinan, so we decided to ceramic coat the tips matte black. The only feature I lost was the Dinan Laser-Engraving on the tips, due to the sandblasting process.

Please enjoy the pictures:

Thank-you all for checking out this week’s update!

Looking at a very similar car to purchase. Does your car have the M button (M Drive)?

It does not have the M-Button.

The goal with Sky is to restore her to a concours-level finish.

I need a shop that understands this, and is willing to keep attention-to-detail at the forefront. Every area of this car must not be overlooked. While I was happy with RMP Motors and would happily refer people there, I needed something more.

After an issue with my car came up with some serious vibration in the drivetrain, the car was mis-diagnosed as “It’s just the solid engine and transmission mounts.” I respectfully disagreed because the car was not making such vibrations after Rocco@RMP changed out the rod bearings and did the solid mounts…this was a newer development.

A good friend of mine Mo, who owns Alpha Motorsports, made a special referral to Usic@TotalMotorWerkes (TMW), who DOES NOT take on new clients. Mo put in a very good word for Usic to consider me as a client, and I was happily welcomed under such special consideration.

Usic does highly specialized work on BMWs, focusing on full-blown restorations like BMW 2002s, race-car prep, and has a passion for “Working from the heart.”

I had Usic do a full inspection of the car with a goal to find as many issues with the drivetrain as possible, here’s what he found:

Looks like I will need to address both the driveshaft and the differential…pricey pricey.

I’m glad to have the support of Total Motor Werkes. Be sure to follow them on Instagram to see the incredible work that this team of 2 does:

Hi everyone and welcome back to my journal.

I have a short but exciting update to share with you all, and it involves Dinan.

My good friend Ross, M3Post Member: “Senpai” was selling his Dinan E90 M3 Exhaust in order to obtain a different exhaust setup.

Mitchhhhh lol, good guy. Any sound clips of the dinan with the challenge xpipe?
