What gear did the DCT start in? If it was cruising in a D mode at 20 mph it might have been in 4th and then tried to shift to 2nd or 3rd to 1st and this might have accounted for the 6MT surge and then subsequent parity? Isn't the DCT a little (tinee, tiny, bit) slower shifting from gears on the same shaft?
It could have been than the 6MT driver was a little quicker on the gas. The OP did say both cars were even after the start? Did the DCT driver previously drive a SMG and he has a habit of lifting a bit on shifts? I'm thinking of more and more things in addition to engine variation? Can't say what's right so I throw crap out there and see what goes down in flames... |

Car and driver review of the DCT test compared to the 6MT, this might proof my results
But Is It Quicker? "After scouring the test results for some useful conclusion, the answer is “not really.” The M DCT car hit 60 mph in 4.3 seconds, cleared the quarter-mile in 12.7 at 113 mph, and achieved 150 mph in 26 seconds flat. Compare that to the six-speed manual’s numbers of 4.3, 12.8 at 113, and 24.3, respectively. If you zoom in even closer and look at each 10-mph increment, the two cars trade off which is quicker until 120 mph, when the manual starts pulling away". I don't understand why on this or any other occasion why the manual car should be quicker at any point unless it's (DCT) is in D mode and need to shift as the throttle is floored.
Here is an A3 2.0T DSG vs a Mk5 GTI manual at a drag strip. Now here's the same A3 against a Focus ST, the same result and remember this is a stock A3. [u2b]f9UJlSf6-nA&feature=related[/u2b] The A3 weighs more than the GTI and has a lower PTW than the Focus yet in both occasions the A3 wins and this is purely down to the gearbox. Here's a GTI DSG against a Focus ST, the video video show the Golf in auto and you see the delay between flooring the throttle and the car shifting and starting to accelerate. The second shows the GTI DSG in manual mode and accelerates from the off. [u2b]XU7j3x4AY3E&feature=related[/u2b] |
