Last Service with a Warranty
The dreaded "increased emissions" service engine soon light came on earlier this week so my car will be marking a visit to the shop next week for that and to replace a fuel breather valve that gives me some hiccups after the occasional fill up. Fortunately, I have an extended warranty through the end of this year.
So, my question is, what other things should I have looked at prior to the warranty expiring? I have a great relationship with the service crew and the car has under 60k miles. Thankfully, the evaporator was already replaced. |

Last week I had my last service before the BMW warranty runs out and the dealer changed the oil, brake fluid, serviced the rear diff. and did a full inspection.

So your extended warranty is expiring not your original 4/50000mile warranty?
Either way they most likely won't cover the battery and unless computer says you're due for something they won't do anything. |

Warranty is set to expire soon; took the car to 2 separate dealerships. Per the dealers, any mileage thresholds per the manual are merely "advisory guidelines" and maintenance under the warranty will only be performed where an error registers on the system. If no error shows on the iDrive, then no maintenance under the warranty - even if the manual "recommends" certain work. Nonetheless, I have 44k mi on the car was hoping for brake pads, fluids, filters, spark plugs, etc. - the basic stuff. The first dealer (Beverly Hills) was incredibly rude, argumentative, and confrontational, and I filed a formal complaint with BMW NA. BMW NA agreed that the dealer should have performed some or all of this maintenance, but also said that they can't control the individual, privately owned shops. They recommended that owners complain (to BMW NA) whenever they have an issue. Apparently if enough complaints are registered, they can sanction the dealers. The 2nd dealer (South Bay) was far more helpful, but ultimately performed very little work: brake fluid flush, and a micro filter. As with most things these days, we are paying more to get less. All of this goes to the quality of BMW's "brand," - if HQ isn't willing to control the dealers, customers will take their money elsewhere.

Your thread has me thinking that I need to do something similar.
1. take my car to an indy bmw specialist for a thorough inspection 2. go to the dealer and have them do the work under warranty 3. ??? 4. profit? |

Appreciate all the replies (and criticisms for not using the search function). A part of my post was hoping that it might jog some peoples memories into doing it for themselves versus leaving it up to searching archived posts.
I cannot stress enough how important it is to have a good relationship with the service staff and techs as that has helped me in the past and continues to do so on this visit. Car is in - laundry list of items to attend to and I am thankful for the $100 deductible on m y extended warranty. Now if only tires weren't $1200 for a set... |
