Roman, did I state it would have a negative or 0 effect? I am looking at the differences in systems here. I would think the OP seen high oil temp as this is the only gauge in the car. He was asked which it getting hot( oil or water ) and wait to hear his feedback.

Oh well then, that would explain the high temps. Horsepower = heat.

thanks for all the suggestions, ive sent my car into my bmw dealership (they are the ones who installed my sc) letting them check everything to make sure everything is in order.

@roman, ambiant temps for that day was around 28-30 degrees C. i set my bmw performance steering wheel to 8200 rpm and shift there. should i be shifting at 8k instead? the course doesnt have too many slow corners. here is the track. back when i did many laps.

ill try the water wetter first. but no way to see if it would work till the next trackday. as the kit is absolutely perfect for any other situations besides the track.

oil is overheating first. i get the reduced power display from the idrive. the car exterior wise is completely stock.

im not talking about car being hot thats completely normal. its hot and i get the reduced power message thats the problem.

SEI,

Run a product called "Engine ICE" instead of adding water wetter. It is a coolant replacement used in motorcycles and snowmobiles and in my experience works better.

If you are using the Performance wheel, after doing the coolant replacement or adding water wetter use the wheel function to monitor your coolant temps. Gauges = information, and information in this type of diagnosis is crucial of course.

Keep in mind engine oil and coolant both transfer heat from the engine..upgrading both items in a track use car is essential to longevity as well as performance.

THE TECH,

In some conditions the air density is so low that even charge cooling does not do the trick 100% and meth is a great solution to cooling the IATs. In hot humid climates is when you have this type of scenario.

It's very common, even in traffic oil temps creep up. The heat exchanger in the lower portion of the bumper blocks a small portion of the factory oil cooler, but there's really no other location for it.

For aggressive drivers or extended sessions. you would definitely benefit from a larger oil cooler: either the M24 or custom.

to get the maximum effekt of the water wetter or similar products you have to drain the cooler fluids and replace it with regular water both in the ESS intercooler and the motor.
That will double the effect of the water wetter.

Might be a stupid question but do you run with the A/C off? I would check that. My E90 got hot really quick on the track the one time I forgot to turn off the A/C.

I use water/iso alcohol in my E46 as a charge cooler. Meth will do the same thing and allow everything to run cooler. The thing about meth is not the easiest thing to find and its not cheap. I use AA's old water/alcohol injection system. So I go to the store, $2 bottle of iso alcohol and $1 gal of distilled water. Good to go!

The bonus is if I get a cut, I can use my w/a system to clean my wound!

I ask about the A/C thing because I had to keep the windows up in Korea which made things a little stuffy in the summer time. Luckily it was no where near 30 degrees celsius.

Maybe try running with the heat on at full blast...that will draw some heat away from the engine.

Is your car a DCT? My engine will get much hotter if I'm going down into 2nd gear for some slower corners. If I stay in 3rd, the oil temps stay around 265ish and don't get higher.

It's very normal to overheat even it's stock. It depends on weather, track layout, temperature, etc. and the most critical: driving. As myself, I overheat most of stock M3's in less than 4 laps, or 3 laps for good suspension set up and tires. I know most people don't have problem with overheating. That's why driving makes huge differences.
For FI M3's, it's not gonna help much I guess.

We are having engine oil cooler for both FI and NA, tranny cooler for DCT, and power steering cooler in development. We will be finished up some time next month. But we have not yet decided to make it in production to general public. I will keep everyone updated.

You really should do your homework before you post on the internet. As an AA employee it makes you and the company look bad. David installed his supercharger kit early 2012 and has only run One lap with our kit installed once so your 2011 results you are bragging about you beat him when he was NA, congrats. You forgot to mention this year while running our kit he ran out of gas during the event which dropped his finishing place so if you consider that a win also I feel your standards might be a bit low.
