Imagine when the factory skins are NLA... i hope that never happens. Interesting that they used to be so cheap! I had no idea
Yeah was just thinking I should have bought 10 of them.

The other source is similar in price to the factory coupe roof, so I would expect an aftermarket of good quality to be more due to the production costs. I didn't know there was more than one option. If you don't mind PMing me the details I would appreciate it.

I expect high quality as well and my dealer has a body shop so I always planned to have them add a couple layers of clear coat to any carbon component that's not OEM. Maybe some that are just for the UV protection. Sealants and ceramic coating can only do so much. Not that I would call an unprotected component unusable, but definitely not a forever part like the existing steel roof should be barring any damage of course.

Here's some pics of what I hope to see in the guesstimated 6-8 week lead time. 🤞🏽Anyone guess where it's coming from? It's not the GB company floating around these days. That didn't go so well.

OMG!! That looks amazing

Love my carbon roof. I have one of the original IND e90m slick tops that were done. Roof has held up for over 9 years now.

Ive been wanting to do a CF roof on my slicktop e90 as i work in a shop and it would be a one day job. What stops me though is knowing i am taking a rare factory slicktop and basically removing its rareness in a sense.

Did you think about that at all?

Mines is a high mileage so resale value is not a consideration for me. Just that purist theory i guess.

Not really. If done properly it should increase the value of the car, not decrease it. Note the most expensive 1M in BaT had a CF roof swap

Was not aware of this. This helps quiet down my fears.

Thanks

I'm right there with you on this - but have decided to make the jump anyways for my individual fire orange E90. Mine came with a sunroof though which helped make the decision easier.

Fire orange with the CF roof is going to blow my mind if I ever seen it in person! So hot!

Looks awesome! I've been on the fence for awhile but this thread might push me over the edge. I have a slick top already but can't get over the fact that I feel a carbon roof should've been an option from the factory. I assume once the spot welds are drilled out you have to cut through the urethane/body sealer that is there correct? Seems pretty straight forward. I'm one of the few here at work that does all the windshields and broken rear glass so that's no problem at all. Great work man!

Thank you!

We only cut through the body sealer to straighten out the line throughout the length of the car, making it easier to then apply a consistent bead of glue and then fully close that gap between the roof and the old body sealer.

It was technically not really necessary to cut it out though, as the CF roof wasn't wider than the steel roof, so it fit in very nicely once the spot welds were gone

We have a LOT more pics but did not post them all, as this is more than a simple DIY. But we have them if you want to see privately

What an outstanding mod! Before I made my final decision to get an E90, I considered E92's but only if they had the CR roof.

Ridiculously insane "nuclear" upgrade and I appreciate the detail and the pictures! Congrats on having the guts/time/money/temporary insanity to pull it off

Note: I do have a slicktop, and if I sell our other car, setup a payment plan with Slonik ...

For whatever reason BMW did not make the E90 with a CF roof. They acknowledged the error of their ways in the F80 and now the G80 gets the CF roof standard on the 4 door M. So everyone is in on the party except the E90! We must fix this!

I’ve considered switching the roof to CF for a long time but wasn’t willing to pull the trigger until I heard Slonik was building one. Aftermarket CF tends to look ok in pics but in person it looks like garbage. I’ve never been able to put aftermarket CF on my car… until now

Anyway, here it is! I went for a bigger than stock weave (large twill weave) so it has a more defined look vs the OEM look.
-Took 3.5 weeks from Russia to the East Coast, it arrived at my house
-It also gives some additional torsional rigidity (small figures, but glued carbon is more rigid than spot welded steel)

Think of it as a wonderful asthetic mod...but that has the added bonus of increasing rigidity a smidge *and* lowering weight! Plus, It'll put a smile on your face every time you see it too, how do you put a price on that? :P

Doing this to a slicktop for sure is a bit extreme, but the pleasure from looking at it is also quite awesome.

It isn't often aftermarket parts are at OEM level. The older I get, the fewer parts I think are 100% upgrades vs OEM.

I reached out to him yesterday via whatsapp and he wasn't planning on doing an E92 roof as there are plenty of used roofs available, but maybe we can get a group buy together for them.

I think one day he will make an E92 roof, as it seems like replacement roofs are already ~4k. But it's a lot of $ to build a mold for one

You have to talk to the group buy guy!

With the slonik e90 cf roof, did you have to glue in your side rails or did they snap in like oem before?

Used a dab of silicone to 'glue' them in. This is the same process as with other CF roofs

Been using the car for weeks and I love the roof! So happy I did this
