I spoke to BMW seattle about this a few years ago, and the SA said rod bearings were a "maintenance item" on these cars. Right..... design flaw =/= maintenance. Rod bearings should last the life of the engine.

Anyway they will only replace with OEM bearings and bolts. If you are going to get the job done, don't just throw the OEM stuff back in there. Buys you some more time, but largely a waste of money IMO.

Totally agree, which is why I was surprised that Eastside Bavarian said they'd use OEM.

I'm going with IS as its convenient for me.
