Total Quartz Racing 10w60

Has anyone tried this in their M3? Since BMW switched from TWS, I decided to go with Total based on my research. I only have a couple hundred miles on the oil so nothing definitive yet. Only thing I can tell, it seems to run a little cooler under regular highway driving yet gets a little hotter on hot days on the highway with the AC running. The needle gets up to the right edge of the "0" of the "210" I don't know if that's even worth mentioning. Anyway, I did a quick search and couldn't find any E90 M3s using the stuff to provide a review.

The oil temps shouldn't be too far off from TWS or whatever other 10w60 oils people are running since the car is water cooled and not oil cooled. The gauge is going to have a certain amount of inaccuracy anyway, so I wouldn't really pay much attention to a 1mm difference in its location while driving around town. It would be more interesting to watch it on the track.

It looks like a pretty typical oil, based on the spec sheet. API SN, meaning it's a relatively recent formula. It's a touch thicker than TWS at 40 & 100 C, but no HTHSV value is available -- maybe you could ask the manufacturer for that, as it's the better indicator of operational viscosity. Flashpoint is a touch higher than TWS, if you care.

Not sure how much you paid, but on paper it doesn't look like it will be any better or worse than the other 10w60s out there. Go ahead and keep it in, get a UOA+TBN+TAN (and maybe a VOA with TBN+TAN if you feel generous) and share the report.

This is what I use exclusively in my e46 m3 track car also use another varient in my x5d of total quartz.

1MOREMOD, have you done any UOAs on the Total you put in the E46? Interesting about your X5d. My wife bought one about a year ago and I've been changing the oil in between dealer changes. I use the dealers oil and filter since its under warranty but I will will switch to Motul Xclean 5w40 when the warranty is up because I prefer the oil a bit heavier. Have you done a UOA on the Total oil you've been using on your X5d? What specific oil is that anyway?

I can get back to you. Don't do analysis on x5d just on the m3

It's Total Quartz racing 10W50

For x5d it's total quartz 5w30 ineo mc3. And use redline atf d4 in both.

This is the oil that AutoTalent uses on their oil changes. Heard a lot of good things about this oil.

I have ran Total oil for over 10yrs in all my cars.... That being said, i do not like it in the s65. I feel that it falls into the same category of LiquiMoly, alot more valve train noise with this oil. I switched to Motul for the s65 and have been happy with it. I use a 3k miles interval anyways, so i suppose it doesnt matter greatly which oil i choose...

They are a business partner and I have cases of their 10-60 I got for free. I know that they are one of the largest oil producers in the world. They make most of the oil for the European car manufacturers. It's just put in a different bottle.

Just curious on the Motul? We've got plenty of dealers here in north Texas so may consider the switch.
