Went to the track and learned that the coolant temp sensor issue I had pop up last track day was the red herring in my limp mode case, which was actually caused by the brake boost vacuum sensor.
I simultaneously learned (the hard way) that BMW engineers placed the un-shielded vacuum sensor directly below the brake fluid reservoir, and the overflow that happened when pushing back caliper pistons a couple months ago soaked said sensor in brake fluid, leading to a total of four warmup laps at the full track day of 7 sessions today (each capped by limpage). To add insult to injury I broke the coolant bleeder screw off sending a coolant geyser of coolant onto everything including myself (It was pretty cool looking though), when I decided to bleed since I had replaced the coolant temp sensor earlier this week. I did manage a personal best sector 3/3 on one of the warmup laps though somehow so it was looking like a good day of progression...what a day

I had the day to myself, it was raining, I felt like sitting down and watching a movie. Halfway through I felt guilty because I had so much to do. Then I recalled I hadn't washed the M3 in several months. My work schedule sucks, tbh. I noticed that there was a break in the rain, so I skipped the rest of the movie and ran outside to do the wash.
An hour later the car was clean and beautiful and the skies were holding so I fired it up and went for an air-dry. A little bit of drizzle hit it but the roads were still dry so all was good. A quick buff with the waffle cloth when I got back into the garage and the car looks perfect. I saw some staining on one of the ZCP wheels. The previous owner had these refinished in polished gunmetal grey and the finish wasn't done correctly. Now i have to find someone who can duplicate this finish and do it the right way. |

The cloth on my moonroof sunshade was sagging so I repaired that. I installed front splitters. And I removed my black trunk M3 badge to wet sand it and apply some coats of clear to freshen it up.

Might be a huge coincidence, but I poured in some of that Liqui Moly Jectron thing, and my fuel economy has improved by 1-2L/100KM already. Normally the way I drive I get 15.7-18.6L/100KM but now I'm getting 13.1L/100km
Yes the numbers aren't accurate but very noticeable difference in city driving

Replaced rod bearings! With only 61k on the car, they looked pretty roached. Will update the Official S65 Rod Bearing Condition Example Thread with pictures when I have more time.

Today? 20 minutes into today's highway annihilation, I was pulled over going 87 in a 55. The statey was a cool enough guy... caught me fair and square, but I had proof my speed gauge is having issues. Ol boy let me off with a "reckless speed" ticket rather than 32 over ticket...Good thing he didnt see me last night though💀💀💀
