Lol ya no steel.

As far as not completing the purchase, it wasn't solely my call. My wife's family is gonna pay for it as a wedding gift to me as stated in an earlier post. They believe they can get a better deal and pay no fees. They are well off but stingy. I was surprised they didn't want to go through with it just because of a under 1000$ in CC fees but they don't pay fees on anything if possible.

Yes, PM watches are, for the most part, easier to get than SS models + the added bonus of usually getting a discount.

BTW: Rolex makes much more money on PM watches than they do SS. The amount of PM found in a watch doesn't even come close to the additional cost of the watch.

This is what I was wearing yesterday for my client meetings.

Does it in anyway feel weird that the watch is probably worth more than your car?

Love the look of the Daytona but it's too small. I don't have large wrists (7 inches or so) and the Daytona looked like a girl's watch size-wise. I have a few GMT'S which are only 1mm larger and the size is fine on those. I think the dial gives the illusion that it wears bigger.

I think it's how they smushed a chronograph into 39mm.....it gives the illusion that it wears smaller than 39.

Too bad....because the watch looks great in pics.

I understand that SS are tougher to negotiate on then are the precious metal versions. I was able to get 5% off my SS Submariner 14060m from my local AD about 8 years ago. It was a bit of back and forth but they finally asked if I was prepared to buy that day and I was so they relented. I walked out wearing it.

now a days, negotiating on the SS Sport models (Sub/GMT/Daytona) is a no go. if you dont want to pay full price, the next person that walks in will.

the Two Tone, Datejusts/OPs, precious metal models all can be negotiated a little, but you still arent going to get much off of them.

In 1999 I was able to get a small discount plus an exchange rate advantage in the Netherlands when I bought my first Rolex Submariner Date.

Today, forget it on any SS sport model. There may be some discounts available on PM models, but not much.

Yeah, the usual rules apply:

Find a ma & pa AD in nebraska and, yeah, you can negotiate. Hit an AD in a major city and probably not.

The local Rolex authorized repair store has stated that Rolex will no longer make repair and replacement parts on four digit models. He is talking about regular wear items that are designed to be replaced. He says Rolex is more interested in selling new watches than preserving its heritage. My GMT needs an overhaul every decade or two. Ebay maybe the new parts source.

what a lot of the vintage repair guys have started doing is stocking up on all the regular wear parts they can. It will make servicing pricey, and the vintage market is going to shoot up even more now.

Also, the fake vintage (Redials, Faux Aging, AM parts, etc) are going to be much more prevalent now. Anytime you buy a vintage piece, be very cautious with it.

Sure is a beauty. I have it’s spawn the newer version “no date” 14060m. Would love to get a classic like yours, one day.
In the warm months or on vacation I put a NATO on mine for SCUBA and just general water use and lightness. Not to mention giving the bracelet a rest from stretch. I like the Zulu bands also but found it very tight on the pins and afraid of bending them or popping off one.

A Rolex dress watch from 1952

now too small for many 34mm/35mm

(the strap has been changed since this photo - lugs are 19mm - black strap is 20mm cut down slightly)

Discounts are going away on PM models; I was lucky to get a decent one on mine almost a year ago. This the closest thing I've got to a daily wearer. Currently I'm rotating three with this getting the majority of the wrist time.
