new battery for 2009 M3 sedan

I need to replace the battery in my 2009 M3 and it looks like I have two options:

Option 1: go to my local shop (Ultimate Bimmer in Nashua) and it will cost $450-480 to get a new battery installed and coded/registered.

Option 2: buy an aftermarket battery with the correct specs for less than half the price, but I would need somebody's help who could register the battery

Is there anybody around Nashua, NH that could code/register the battery??

Thanks,

George

That seems like dealer level pricing from an independent shop. I would look for a new indy.

If you buy the battery yourself, I can’t imagine most Indy shops charging more than .5 hour to register. I recommend the AGM battery from advanced auto parts (always google for coupon codes).

What about getting an Antigravity Battery that will save you 40+ pounds over that boat anchor in your trunk now? Pay an indi shop 1/2 hr labor to code it.

Just get an Odyssey 49-950 through FCP Euro for $260 and have a shop register it for like $50 to $100.

Haha I know. Pretty expensive, but it's actually a pretty economical way to shed 40 +pounds. Only a few hundred bucks more than OEM.

Antigravity is a whole different level, but if you’re looking to economically lose battery weight, guys have used Mini and Z4 sized batteries. I believe the Mini sized battery saves 20+ pounds and on the aftermarket costs less than a comparable aftermarket stock size.

The small batteries won’t last as long or be as likely to start in winter. I just buy the most similar spec AGM from the parts store for about $150. To get the most life out of it, you should register it. At least reset battery adaptation. A scan tool like the Foxwell NT510/520/530 should register the battery. There are other tools as well.

Years ago, I ran the ETX30 AGM power sports battery in my E36M3. It lasted about 18 months — through one winter but not the next. The E90 is higher compression and more power hungry. If you park in heated garages and trickle charge when you don’t use the car for more than a few days, a small battery would last longer. I did not do those things.

I need practicality from my E90. If I did not, I’d probably run the H5 size AGM and try it out. I am not going to spend $800 on a battery to save 40 lbs. I should lose 20 lbs instead as a compromise.

Get Carly, a good AGM battery with correct CCA and register after changing out the battery. There is literally 3 nuts before you are able to remove the battery.

BMW of Stratham has $100 off battery coupon. I would do that rather than trust some other shop or brand and get the wrong battery.
Give them a call and see what they would charge.

I just changed my battery last month with this..

Had a coupon and got it for $179+$20 core charge.I believe it's slightly better specs than OE

If you don't have a buddy that can register it for you:
go to stealership
pay someone that can code on a laptop
buy Carly for BMW
buy a BMW code reader/reset tool that can do new battery registration

https://www.amazon.com/AUTOPHIX-Om12...NsaWNrPXRydWU=

I's meet up and do it for you but unfortunately I don't have any of the above.
