This could be great for us or could burst our bubble of hope.

17.3 millions is a piece of cake to them when you compare that to a leaky trunk that costed BMW 475 million dollars. You can read the thread here.

As much as many people don't see any lights at the end of tunnel, I am actually rather optimistic about this. This surely isn't the first time BMW screwed up, and it certainly wouldn't be the last time that they settle for the mess-up that they created.

Lol yes I am aware of how to subscribe. And I do appreciate you looking out. I was referring to the link in the original post asking for people to register and pay. I thought that maybe that's what everyone was referring to in announcing "subscribed".

FYI everybody, I'm subscribed to every thread ever started. Boof sees all! Although some would call it Trolling.

definitely subbed - although BMW Australia will ignore anything that comes out of the states because they all called Rick... with a silent 'p'

I'm not sure what to expect. Will it be a lifetime warrenty on bearings? A preemptive replacement?

Let's say I keep my car another 10 years. They don't exactly have a warehouse full of S65 short blocks of my engine explodes. So how can they replace my engine?

I doubt there will be lifetime warranties or new engines for everyone. Maybe rod bearing replacements, maybe a payout to those who suffered engine failures, maybe a payout to owners who did rod bearing changes.

What are you driving in the meantime? Hopefully it is as much or more fun than the E9xM3.

Prices will go up if BMW warranties a repair. Right now the risk may be driving down prices.

Honestly, I don't foresee a resolution or recall that would appease us e9x owners. I'm sure BMW has done their homework and risk intelligence and decided that the impact is low enough to ignore.

Pretty shitty considering most M owners are quite loyal to the brand and usually have owned multiple M cars and Bimmers.

Please prove me wrong, BMW.

A recall? Yeah, I'm quite sure that will never happen. They aren't going through the time, effort, and expense to find a way to re-engineer the bearings, crank, or other internal surface on an engine they don't make any longer. Best bet is that the powertrain warranty gets extended based only on mileage (not time) to something like 100k-120k miles. Or perhaps they will offer some type of compensation for bearing replacement with the same OEM bearings.

I don't see it going any other way than this--best case scenario.

That's an interesting scenario you present. Give us all the peace of mind for 120,000 miles. I do think there will be a conclusion to all of this that benefits owners over BMW.

If BMW is reading this, I will settle the matter for $30,000 cash plus free lifetime lease on an M of my choosing with unlimited miles. If interested just PM me BMW. Thanks.
