DCT in 335is
Hi All,
I've heard that the 335i's now have access to DCT (although the gearshift still looks like that bizzarre automatic shifter). Does this tranny fall victim to the lag issues that some of us are facing? Not too sure of the technical considerations of this is out "M-DCT" significantly different?

Also Check.... http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?p=2154951 - Answers my question about the version... but not about the lag... (still gives hope that they will keep pushing the evolution of DCT)

I believe EU 335i has an option for DCT, Right?
I saw threads in E90Post. 335i DCT has the same the knob as 5er sport A/T (or we can call it X5M) knob, not US A/T knob.

Thanks Metak for the link. I guess I'm happy that BMW are investing in this technology which should mean continuing improvements to M-DCT

I would be surprised if the DCT hardware used in the 335 and in the new Z4 substantially differs from that fitted in the M3. The software yes it is different, I understand it is more simpified (not too many options / seetings to select etc), but for the hardware setup I don't think so. It does not make much of an economic sense (and numbers count these days more than before). I don't know, I may be talking nonsense.

gr8000 - good point. I would agree the mechanics would be the same - although you would have thought that perhaps the materials used may differ?

Maybe save a bit on production / material costs via a downscaled version as it needs to handle less torque and horsepower? In other words smaller clutch discs, smaller oil pump / cooler, smaller clutch actuators etc?
I really don't know, its all guesswork. |

So southy does that mean that the DCT is really all in the software (Drivelogic?)?

The 335i and the new Z4 have the new DCT but not the same with M3 DCT. Maybe a difference in S/W or H/W but that is beyond my pay grade. The shifter is not the same as the M-DCT shifter. It looks like the old AT shifter.

Yes, the 335i DCT does lag, according to a couple people who responded in my thread here:
http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?p=4874740 Supposedly, however, the Z4 35i DCT does not lag. I can't remember where I heard that though, so I don't know how sure we are of that. All three cars share the same transmission. |

The AT in the 335i is actually pretty damn good!

Sorry South (it is an Australian vernacular to put an 'o' or 'y' at the end of a name). No disrespect. Thanks for the info.
Interesting how Z4 isn't getting lag.. Might be a good sign for the M3...
