Did The CIC Update Add New Features?
Hello everyone, while looking at M3's right now, there's the option of going with an older 2008 with the older iDrive system and the newer 2009 CIC iDrive.
While researching the differences between the updates, not much information on whether new features were added. Things like settings to change in the iDrive system and neat things like stopwatch and adjusting car modes. I know the system was updated with a new screen, computer, controller and more, but were there new features added to the system? My M3 is going to be my daily driver, so I like having things to tinker around, but I'm mostly going to be using a Tune2Air (still the best option for Bluetooth, right?) to have Bluetooth music from my phone. Thank you all. TL/DR; Did the CCC -> CIC update add new features or settings that someone would be interested in? Last edited by TimmyM56; 09-04-2017 at 11:37 PM.. Reason: Spelling. |

CCC in my opinion is pretty much useless.
CIC has much for functionality, when paired with a Combox. Bluetooth music streaming, better maps, better music control, etc. NBT is the way to go. Has all the features of CIC+Combox built into the radio and is significantly easier to install. Also much faster. CCC and CIC are very laggy systems. One of my favorite features is having Siri or Google Now at the touch of a button on the steering wheel.

Yes sir. It's a big step over CIC. Best part is it looks right at home.
My car came with no navigation at all from factory.

I recently made the switch from CCC to CIC. There isn't any additional features, aside from the improved graphics and processing speed. Nevertheless, as others have noted, having to see and use the old CCC was one of the biggest let downs of my car and one of the first things I changed.
Although NBT packs additional features, as doogee notes, plus improved graphics and processing speed, the cost to retrofit it can be around $3-4k. |

Sorry, I meant that last time I looked it up, it looked like it was still too complex to do and people had issues doing the retrofit, with some parts not working, but those posts were from 2014. But now it looks like other's got it to work so it's something I plan to do in the future.

I have a 2008 M3 with nav and enhanced premium audio. I want to do the latest version of the 2009+ update. I have seen a few kits here and there online, but am a little lost on where to start. Is there somewhere I can go to buy the whole kit, or should I just buy the equipment used and buy the retrofit harnesses new?
I've also seen there are combox and other things available. All I know is that the ccc system is really outdated. I want the functions of Bluetooth audio streaming, maps from phone, etc. Thanks for your help! |

NBT (stands for Next Best Thing) is a more modern Navigation System that BMW started fitting into their cars in I believe July of 2012.
It has since been replaced by NBT2 EVO which added more features. This older article gives a nice breakdown of the differences between the CCC, CIC and NBT versions. https://www.autoevolution.com/news/h...rt-100329.html Madmatt
