My son’s basketball goal blew into the side of my car and put an ugly dent about a quarter size. Anyone know what options I have or familiar with what the cost to repair something like this would be?

there is decent access from the back for a PDR guy, but that sharp corner is going to "strengthen" the dent and make it a lot more difficult. a body shop should be able to hammer it straight, fill it with bondo, and then respray/blend it. thats probably the easiest route.

I had a similar incident with my A pillar, however it was dead center of the A pillar, oval shaped, and no paint damage (probably some damage to the clear coat). The PDR guy was worried that PDR would end up pulling paint off but luckily came out ok and can't tell anything happened now otherwise.
In your situation, dent repair will probably end up destroying more paint if they pull the dent out which may not matter since it will require a repaint anyway. Unless they get to it from the otherwise like roast beef suggested - will still require repainting. Hope you get the headache sorted out!
