Wow, I haven't been on here in a minute but just happen to browse tonight and saw my old thread. My mistake, I didn't realize I never updated the thread after all these years.
I left off saying I was going to spray the foam directly onto the evaporator after removing some fan from under the passenger side dash. Well, that happened to be the correct answer finally. Not only did the smell finally go away, it hasn't returned since, now 4 years later. Now on all my cars I got into the habit of turning the AC compressor off 2 minutes before my destination and blast the fan. You will see condensation building up on the vents which means it's working. I think the e9x just has a poor drainage system compared to other cars. My Toyota and Honda you see the water dripping from under the car at a pretty rapid rate after running the AC but my e90 was dripping at a much slower rate. Just follow the video step by step and it's fairly easy to do. I might actually do this on my car just because it's already been 4 years. Lmk how it goes.

Thanks for the detailed follow-up; exactly what I was hoping to hear. I've got just a mild mildew smell for a couple seconds when starting up and am drying things out before the end of every trip, but I suspect it won't fully go away until I nuke the evaporator with this stuff. (Btw, the drying process is miserable. It's like living in a rain-forest for two minutes. You're right that our cars seem to just have a bad system for removing condensation.)
I replaced my blower motor once before, so can't be all that hard to do this the "right" way as they suggest. Will report back. |
