Cool video. Pardon my retardation, but what is a CLS? I owned an E46 M3 prior to my current ride, but don't remember my dealer offering the CLS option. Is it like a competion package?

CSL - What others have said plus limited volume and not available in the US; so, you are correct: Your dealer didn't offer it.

Well, they're not that rare (except in the States). But the V8 powered E46 M3 GTR will be for sure. It's the M version of the M version (CSL) of the normal E46 M3.

Did they even make more than one of those? I mean were they ever sold to the public?

With an e46 CSL M3, hot chicks will be begging for you to come in their homes & not drive them around

Actually, the CSL was quite rare at 1,400 units produced. The GTR is far more limited, obviously, but the CSL will still be a collector BMW. The GTR will costs hundreds of thousands of dollars to purchase, where as a CSL will be no where near that high, but will keep a good value and increase over time.

The CSL is rare in the states because they didn't offer them here... If you see one, it's either a replica that someone has made, or was imported, which at that time would have been damn near impossible to do, unless it was imported as a kit car. Which basically means you'd have to order the car stripped and shipped and then either have it put together, or do so yourself.

Thanks for playing, though.

There's 1 or 2 CSLs here. If i'm not mistaken you can ship it as private property for private use off American streets. There are ways around the "system." They were about 90k new and they aren't going to depreciate much

I think the rule is called "show & display", where the mileage is limited to 2000 miles per year. Still costly to federalize, around $10-15k.

And for that money, why not just build your own? Granted, it wouldn't be the REAL thing, but it would be damn near close enough.

Actually from my perspective it would be better, since you could start with a manual transmission car.
