I have yet to see another bmw dealership match this.... only other guys I know that do this are PFAFF porsche and Audi.
T&C?I had our Mini serviced there and was a very poor experiance!

$275 for an oil change is obsurd. I'll bet you can get the oil and filter for cheaper than that and do it yourself.

I believe there is a DIY posted on changing the oil.

$175.50 was for the 9 litres of oil + the filter and 1/2 hour labour + taxes.

For saving about $50 the hassle of doing it myself and the fact that the extra service is recorded,I will continue to get it done@ Parkview.

$175.50 for 9 litres of oil? At that price, you're paying a full $19.50 per litre of oil! There's only one dealer in town here and I can buy the oil from the parts guys somewhere between $12 - $14 (I can't remember the exact price off the top of my head).

Can't you get a discount from the parts counter guys? This just reaffirms to me that it's a good idea to strike up a good rapport with the these guys because there's a real savings to be had.

I have no problem buying all my parts @ jobber also, but it is just not worth the effort to save a few bucks.I will probally get that back on resale when I retail the car with full dealer records. It has allways helped in the past.

I don't follow your logic in which you think that by paying a higher price for oil it will help the resale value of your car down the road.

Look, I'm not knocking what you're doing with respect to taking your car to the dealer for oil changes. I too have the option of doing it myself or taking it in, and 95% of the time I end up taking it in because it's more of a hassle than it's worth to do it myself and save a few dollars.

But whether you do your oil change yourself or not should not have any affect on what price you pay for the oil going into your car. Depending on how much you drive per year, it could end up being hundreds of dollars in your pocket versus the dealers. Now in my book, that's money that could be put to good use modifying/personalizing your car.

Just my 0.02 and YMMV

When I sold my 911 I had all the records for all the extra services that were done by the dealer. These made it a much easier sale & I got top $'s for the car than if I had done it myself. For the sake of $100 maybe twice a year it does not make it worthwhile for myself to do it.Besides I write my maintences costs off on my taxes as it is a business use vehicle.

Like I said in my last post.....depending on how much you drive and therefore how often you change oil, then the cost of buying the oil can be a major component.

If you only put enough mileage on the car to change oil twice a year, PLUS you get to write off your vehicle expenses, then I see why you are not overly inclined to work out a deal with the parts guys.

As I said above, to each his own and YMMV, but I'd still be trying to get a deal on the oil because there's just no good reason for them to charge that much other than to line the dealership pockets with your money.

Bottom line though, I think you should do whatever you feel will help you better enjoy your car and the ownership experience that comes with it.

To the OP, sorry about . Let's all get back to complaining about dealers.

Not on my E92 but I did receive oil top ups on my E46 M3 from both Maranello & DT BMW.I did not do extra oil changes on that car as it was a car that I did not intend to keep for any great length of time.

I received a free oil top up from my E93 at Budds. When I asked at service the SA walked in the back and brought out a litre of oil, poured in 3/4 and gave me the rest of the bottle in case it needed it once the reading settled (joys of no dipstick). I will say that the next time I was in I bought the nylon case with the velcro (I think it was ~ $7) and a litre of oil to keep in the trunk for the next time so that I did not have to waste time going back to the dealer.

Overall I have been very happy with my service of all my vehicles at Budds, and when I have ever had minor complaints or issues, they have taken the time to listen to me and find a resolution.

Just don't get me going about the BMW Assist feature and how when they towed my wife's X5 when she had a flat (on runflats) that they left her with a 1 and 3 year old on the side of the road. When I called back (very upset) and asked to speak to someone who could "assist" us, the caller refused and only after demanding to speak to her supervisor did the jerk come on the phone and offer to call a cab for her. Sorry about getting but I am still when I think about it. Needless to say I never renewed my subscription after the free year. CAA all the way!

+1 on being happy with the service at Budds - been dealing with them now for the past 6 years and they have been great especially in comparison with the other 2 BMW dealers I have dealt with in the past.

While I have not required a top up on the M3 as of yet. My experience was the same as Revmmm's with top up's on other cars. Carrying oil with you really is the best way to go! Comes in handy when finding a dealership may not be convienent!

Revmmm, thats brutal that they would leave your wife and kids curbside!

forgot to update this thread, T&C (town & country) filled me up a couple weeks ago too. No questions asked, no bullshit. They came, they filled me up and I left. Not even 5 minutes wasted. That is the kind of service I like to see/have.

Did the same at Parkview a couple weeks back, aside from having to wait a couple minutes for them to find the oil there were no issues at all. Topped up with a full litre and on my way no questions asked.

I personally think it is reasonable, loaners should be always to the customers bought their cars from that dealership. That's why I always go to the local/closest for service and purchase.
