Anyone with the perforated mod in the Arlington area cool with meeting up so I can hear it in person before I pull the trigger? I can also meet in Fairfax Saturday evenings as I am usually close to GMU. Let me know, thanks.

Also if someone wanted to do this mod.you can easily send this video to the exhaust shop via youtube/link, when not doing it by yourself and make things very clear to the shop! (DIY/VIDEO)>

Hi all - new to the forum. Digging up this thread. Thanks for the informative posts. I have two noob questions about the 2 perforated pipe replacement.

1. Can you not just wrap the pipes to obtain the same result, saving some cutting / welding?

2. Are there any effects other than sound modification? Is any other tuning recommended to keep the car running optimally long-term?

Thanks!

Yes you can just wrap them and have the same result. It's looked at as temporary as the wraps or clamps could loosen or fail over time. You still have to weld the muffler housing back together so a welder is involved no matter what. If the welder is already being used, might as well weld a new pipe section in.

No it just changes the sound of the car. No tune needed. A tune is only recommended when removing the cats from the car. No car need a tune for a simple muffler replacement or modification.

Welcome to Bimmerpost

1. Yes . I saw people using exhaust heat wrap ( the video below shows the wrap at 3:00)
How the exhaust heat wrap keeps up on long term , that's the big question . Because the heat is immense inside the canister .
That's why I welt solid pipes .

2. Negative . Zero other effects . Only a great exhaust sound .

Awesome info - thanks all! Glad to be a part of this forum. I've already found a wealth of information on rod bearings and now exhausts.

Anyone in WI or nearby that has a mod stock exhaust I'd love to swing by and hear it!
