Need help on tires!! 275/35/18

Just got a set of TE37 SL 18x10.5 Square.

Now that’s out of the way.. I can’t decide between Bridgestone RE71R or Conti Extremecontact Sport!

Please help.

Two very different tires. It depends on your use. One is better suited for track while the other is better suited for daily use. If you daily the car I'd lean towards the Continentals. If you spend more time on track or on back roads, I'd go for the RE71Rs. I made the switch from R888R (R-compounds) to Michelin Pilot Sport 4s (near 300tw tires) and couldn't be happier.

Agree with above. What's your use?
If canyons and backroads only or track driving Re71r (which is being discontinued soon FYI) or Falken rt660 is the way to go.
For more daily regular street use Michelin Pilot Sport 4s would be my choice and one of the best options for rain driving.

Haha. I can see why I'm getting bashed for these 2 tire choices. Reason why I can't decide is because this car was my daily and the PSS were great tire, even with light track use, but the 4s is back ordered.

Now I have another daily, my M is still used on the streets, and maybe 2-3 track days a year? But no where near as much miles as before

My main concern were just tire wear tbh

If the main concern is tire wear then the RE71's are not the tire for you. Get the Conti's. They will work fine for light track use as well.

Continental make a great street tire, best wet performance I've ever had for a summer tire. For track they get greasy after a certain amount of heat cycles. They used to anyway 5 year ago maybe they've changed. They make a great shoe too love ultra boosts.

I was recently in a similar "dilemma" and had RE-71r's in 275/35/18 and I daily my car. I wanted a very aggressive tire mostly due to thinking it would help me dominate my weekend canyons runs and look much more purposeful with the aggressive tread patterns and all.

I've since learned even if I drive hard in the canyons every weekend, it's still not even enough to get the R compound up to temp to really exploit what they can do. They also ride like freaking bricks when cold, but weren't too loud like R888r's.

I think the conti's or even better MP4S is a solid choice that is an awesome daily and can handle more than enough in canyon runs.

With all that being said, I'm currently on Yokohama AD08r's and these are a surprisingly good 200 AA tire, a little noisy but not unbearable.

Check out the Goodyear Supercar 3. It's much better on the street than the REs (though not as good as the PS4S) but also good on track in terms of grip which is comparable to the REs and doesn't really fall off or get greasy after a few laps. They're my current track tires and wear has been good on them as well so far.

Neither. The Hankook RS4 is one of the best track/street tires available. They can handle track duty and wear like iron. TireRack doesn't stock all the sizes now but you can get 275/35/18 at https://hankookmotorsports.com/

RS4s are good but are on backorder until spring of this year. I looked into getting a set a couple months ago.

I think the rubber wear on ultraboost is high though. Maybe its not based on 300TW. lol

You forgot to mention they also amplify road noise and stiff as hell sidewalls. FWIW, they are also heavier by a pound when compared to the PS4S 275/35/18.

back on topic:

I did a few track days on PS4S and they have been nothing but great on the track. The pace is obviously not record breaking but it is still fast enough to be fun without the traction falling off a cliff. I enjoyed my track days with it.

If driving in the rain is of importance, I would go with the ultra high performance tire category (300TW) vs the max performance tire (200TW). Why cater to the 1% of the time it is being driven to compromise the 99% of the time it is being driven?

Where did you look? Hankookmotorsports.com almost always has them in stock.

Edit: Just saw my comment is echoed above lol

I have tracked my Conti ECS's and depending on the track, they'll last ok, just be a lot of slidey fun.

The Conti ECS wasn't out 5 years ago, the Conti DW, its predecessor, sucked on track, but at least it wore well.

But my next set of "fun" tires will be the Goodyears.

How's ECS compared to PS4S at the track? What sizes were you running?

275/35-18 square on 18x10's. I have not tracked the PS4S, but from what I've seen on other cars, they would have chunked pretty badly on the Roval I was running with the same abuse, just beacuse that outer tread block on the PS4S is so soft and I was doing 20-min sessions without any regard for protecting the tires.

Just took a look at ECS on some Pcar.

Lots of gravel stuck to the tires which leads me to believe they are quite grippy. Conti advertised extensive joint development with racers so looks like it might fare better than PS4S on 2-3 sessions with some cool down laps.

Might give this one a try...

Buy a tire that doesn't require cool down laps.
