Maybe a better question is which one should be MT and which DCT? And why?

Nothing couldn't fit the need as well as another S65 did.
This is after having an E39 M5, E46 325ci 5MT, Z3 Coupe 5MT, E93 328i 6MT, E46 M3 6MT vert then most recently an E38 w/S62 6MT swap.

S65 FTW.
I am leaning towards getting a sedan to at least feel like a different car. Imagine me sharing the picture of my garage...two stock interlagos blue coupes (both with sunroof and comp package). Minor differences inside aside the DCT/MT)

Haha...I am not making it easy for myself either. Both coupes, same color, package. Which one would hold more value/desirable 15 yrs from now?

Through the above discussions many have shared (and thank you!) I am going back to the basic why I was on a look out for another E9x M3. Initially I was on carvana couple of weeks back when autotrader directed me to a white 2011 E90 sedan DCT. Once I lost that opportunity my focus got diverted. I am reaching a conclusion that I should skip the DCT coupe purchase and wait for what I was looking for. Mint 2011 sedan with DCT!

Please let me know if anyone is interested in the carvana car so when I cancel the order, a fellow on the board can jump in and get the chance to buy it!

DCT sedan - hard to beat as a driver M3. All the thrills and chills of a coupe but with a useable back seat.

With a DCT sedan in the stable you have no excuse not to turn that 6MT coupe into a weekend/track toy

Go for it.. Life is too short to not enjoy.

I've had both, they are a different experience.. i found the 6MT more engaging but nothing wrong with the DCT.. The "auto blip" on the DCT was very addictive..

6MT first. Added DCT so my other half could drive and I was curious about DCT specifically tailored for S65, which did not disappoint.

Just let you know that I currently own two 6MT 2013 e92 M3 with April 2013 and June 2013 production date. One is Jet black with premium pkg, non EDC, nav, carbon roof, black leather interior with 18 inch OEM wheels. The second one is AW with comp pkg, speed cloth (manual), EDC, carbon roof, non comfort access, nav, with MPE2.

Jet black one is my first M3. However, I have always wanted to have an AW competition speedcloth M3. At the end of last year, I pulled the trigger and bought an AW comp M3.

If your wife gave you permission to sleep with another woman, any woman you wanted, would you pick her identical twin sister?

I’d say try something new. I don’t think transmission choice alone is enough of a differentiator to justify owning two of, otherwise, the same car.

No right or wrong answer here, but shows the difference in preference or approach. I have a 6MT e92 M3, and in hindsight I wish I got a manual e90M3 and the e92 in DCT for the track/weekend toy.

I feel like the more engaging street car would be better. Having driven both manual and DCT on track, I found the DCT very boring on the street, but very engaging and fun on the track.

Personally I prefer DCT on the track as well

Haha...good one. I have ditched the idea of getting the same car. DCT sedan would makes sense for me.

I had the SMG II e46 M3 in the past. I miss those hard shift under full throttle. I can only imagine DCT is many times better.

Since I have a e92 6mt, my dream is to add a e90 dct as a daily but it’s only a dream for a reason. They’re extremely expensive if you want a nice example, expensive to run as a daily, and the newest model year is 10 years old now.

But if cost wasn’t an issue, I would absolutely love a dct version of my car. While I love rowing my own gears, I always wonder how awesome dct would be paired to the s65. Would I give up the mt for dct? No way, but adding one will always remain a dream of mine.

I have toyed with the idea of getting an e46 M3 SMG for the track, as it is a different experience and the paddles would be fun on track and enable me to focus more on correct lines, braking points etc, as I really learn to drive on track.

Ultimately I decided I would want something with higher performance on the track and have resigned to waiting until I can comfortably afford a GT3/GT3RS as a paddle shift toy. Gives me time to build my skill too.

Also, fwiw, I actually like the SMG, F1, and EGear transmissions. DCT often smooths out the shifts whereas those automated manuals in their most aggressive settings will really shift hard. The Gallardo SLs come immediately to mind.

Is it crazy to have both? As a mental health professional, I'd point out that crazy is relative. Isn't it crazy not to have both?

If I could swing it, I would love to add a dct E90 M3 as a daily driver. I feel like that is the greatest do it all car if you had to have just one, given what they go for.

Now having two, means twice the potential problems lol but it might be worth it. YOLO.
