Protective Glass film

I've been reading up on several window films that, like tint, can be added to the side glass to make it more difficult for someone to break the glass ..and if they break the glass, it will stay together the same way a windshield does.

I'll have to try to find an installer here in France, but would welcome any advice/experience anyone has with installing this kind of film. I'm not looking for tint (aged eyes need to be able to see all the light possible at night), but rather something that is optically clear/transparent and that would resist to some level an outside impact (smash and grab type of theft).

Upsides/downsides?

Thanks
