I think we should all stop guessing what will happen and just wait and see what the OP learns next week.
I am anxious to hear if BMW offers any goodwill.

Update:

The Premier Dealer Services inspector showed up today to look at my BMW M3, which is currently at SS BMW on the rack...

The inspector took photos and documented a few things quietly and then sent everything in to PDS's service dept...

PDS soon called the service advisor at SS BMW to find out how much the repair/replacement is going to cost, which is currently $19.5k... PDS's person said that they do not have the authority to authorize a repair of that high of cost, and they will need to push my claim further up the chain of command in order to get an approval for this much money... They stated that they would try to get back to the service advisor at SS BMW before the day is over...

Still not out of the woods yet!

Will keep you posted....

If they pay, it will be the last E9XM3 they warranty unless they jack the rates.

This thread prompted me to call my warranty company to ask if I am responsible for providing service records or any proof of oil changes prior to my ownership. They confirmed that I am only responsible for maintenance on the vehicle going forward, not back. So it still seems dumb that they required you to provide service records given that you've owned the car for such a short period of time. glad you had everything though so they couldn't use that as an excuse against you. Crossing my fingers they approve the repair bill for you!

Round 2!

Now they want to send another inspector out to look at the car tomorrow morning...

I guess they want a second opinion before they shell out $19.5K!!

Keep you posted once again...

I wonder what the point of that is. Considering the inspectors are supposedly simply adjusters tasked with documenting the damage.

I did read a good article on mechanical warranty companies... It stated that the unprincipled and shady companies will typically flat out deny a claim if they don't want to pay for the repair... The good companies will typically send a 3rd party independent inspector to verify and make the final determination...

http://www.consumerautomotiveresearc...air-Claims.htm

We will see...

Sounds more and more likely that they're going to cover it since they can't seem to find an excuse not to.

OP - have you engaged BMW North America yet? I recognize you have a extended warranty - but curious if you have reached out to BMW corporate.

Holding out for you. I spent my past three years working at my local BMW dealer through college and I've seen about everything. Most 3rd party warranties will push for a used motor. The most recent case I've seen involving a motor replacement through 3rd party was involving an M3.

Customer's 3rd party said they would only pay the amount of a used motor. Customer only wanted remanufactured through BMW that way it also comes with two year parts warranty. Long story short, customer paid the difference on the motor after dealer worked on motor pricing.

Sending out a 2nd inspector after the 1st usually happens when the claim is very high. As said they like to get a second opinion before shelling out the dough.

The options I see if they don't want to pay full price for a remanufactured motor from BMW are..

1) Negotiate with your dealer on the pricing see if you and the warranty company can come to an agreement with you paying the least amount of pocket.

2) Contact BMW NA and see if they are willing to help at all. I've seen this work a few times, they might not cover it all but perhaps a portion. Better than nothing right? Your chances are greater if you have owned multiple BMWs over the years and if you plan on continuing/purchasing another BMW. If they happen to cover the difference, great!

If it is a used motor, I would certainly be doing a preventative maintenance rod bearing change before installing it.

If the third party warranty only offers a used replacement, who actually looks for a used engine? If it's a lower mileage used engine, that wouldn't be a bad deal. But I know I wouldn't be ok with having a used engine installed that might not have service records or proof of oil changes.

The warranty company does and they send it to the dealer. Dealer doesn't bother since BMW doesn't offer used parts and they aren't able to warranty it.

I have not contacted BMW NA yet, but I am thinking about going that route... I have PM'd 2 people that had their engines replaced as "goodwill" but I have not gotten any responses or good leads on where to start the process...

Anyone know where to start with BMW NA?
