E90/92/93 M3 Owners Will you Trade UP for the next Generation M3?
Ok! Gang we all know we have the awesome M car ever produced, it would be the last NA M3 that will be made. I really enjoy this Beast that selling it is not in my sight because it is not only fun to drive and own but also I am not a natural fan for turbocharged or supercharge engine.
Im taking a poll to find out if Im the only one who intend to keep this car when the next generation M3 arrives. |

I'm going to keep it. Not because it'll be a collectible or anything (I doubt it'll hold value any better than an E36 or E46 tbh), but because I like the car for what it is.

No plans to get one here. I'll be looking to get into something smaller like an M2(?) or next-gen Cayman S/R.

We will just have to wait and see what the next gen brings to the table.

I plan on keeping my E92 M3 for as long as it will last. To me, this car is like the Porsche 993 - the end of an era, but the performance envelope of the car keeps it perfectly relevant today.

Like most said, gonna have to wait and see what they bring. I love this car and if its anything less than stellar, its not going anywhere.

Happy to admit I'll be trading up for the next gen pretty much as soon as the next gen is available. I know I'm in the minority. I like new cars. And better mpg won't hurt.

True but doesnt mean the generations before it wont have a huge following. Even on this forum we have people saying the E46 is more "fun" than the E9x.

The horsepower wars will diminsh with time due to CAFE stds and physics. Increasing HP 20% as BMW did between the e46 and e90/92/93 will not yield the same gains as 20% on top of the e90/92/93 chassis. You ca't mess with the 2nd and 3rd laws of thermodynamics.
This all means that what we have today is pretty spectacular and BMW will be hard pressed to deliver significant gains on the next model comparable to what we saw with this model. The only way to seek parity in the gains is to (a) increase HP while ( b) simultaneously decreasing weight. SInce this is really hard to do at the price point that exists, I would anticipate just 10-15% overall gains with the next model and a lot of "content" to help bulk up the sales story. |
