Resonator delete on stock e90 M3 exhaust system worth it?
Anyone able to advise how a resonator delete sounds on the stock e90 M3 exhaust system?
Is it worth the effort and labor costs? How different is the sound? Are you happy you did it? I don't have the $ for a new cat back system Thanks |

Is the resonator delete really that much louder?? You are basically running straight pipes. Will it really be that loud with the cats but no resonator?

resonator delete is a lot louder than cat back...not to mention 3" pipes give it a little more echo and a deeper growl. i'd love to sit our cars next to each other with a sound metering device and quantify it. but yes, i essentially have straight pipes. my mufflers are pretty much open steel boxes.

What about resonator delete with stock exhaust cans?

Let me get this straight... You are swapping out parts designed by some of the top engineers in the world because some guys sponsored by a company told you it's "better??" But when you ask the same guy about tracking, "oh no, I have a kid now" or "I just detailed my car." or "i just got new tires."

i'll just say it's really awesome for about a month, but then when the awesomeness subsides, have fun trying to hold a conversation on bluetooth. oh, and it rattles the tail light bulbs loose, sending sensors galore haywire. i still like it, but i'm probably going to "tone it down" with remus race soon.

edit: makes sense now...you have an exhaust too. Mine exhaust is stock...the sound difference without resonators is not big at all. i actually want more of a growl. I thought I would get that without the resonators, but no.

Yeah, that vid says stett performance exhaust. So I'm assuming he's talking about the difference in removing them while running an aftermarket(louder) exhaust. I think the changes in sound from removing resonators while leaving stock muffler still in tact will be a lot less. It might even give you some unwanted sounds.

A LITTLE more raspy, but not much. A LITTLE deeper, but not much. No drone. I only notice the sound difference when it is in the HIGH rpm range...or if you are gunning it in neutral.

it really is insane in real life. like i said above, it's too loud for me. i wish it was a little softer because it's hard to be stealth with it. it wakes the neighbors and it rattles my back door if i leave it running in the garage, no kidding. anyone that has been to a local meet has heard it, i definitely win the ridiculous exhaust category. but my whole point is don't do it. it's too loud. i plan on changing it soon for that reason. some people might like it but it gets old pretty fast for me. hope this provides insight for people thinking about a resonator delete with some sort of aftermarket muffler. |
