Hey Everyone, looking for some expert advice on the height settings for Ohlins R&T.
To get my desired height with 18" wheels I had to lower my vehicle outside of Ohlins adjustment tolerance. The adjustment tolerance for the front is the standard position of 158mm minus 15mm, equaling 143mm. In the front passenger position I've adjusted to 138mm (5mm out of tolerance) and to match the front passenger fender gap I had to adjust the driver front to 133mm (10mm out of tolerance). I don't like being outside of the engineered tolerance, and would like to know what issues this may cause. Is it a spring softness issue, sway bar end link issue, and/or other component interference issue? I plan to call Ohlins next week, but wanted to see if anyone had first hand experience. Thanks Last edited by Turbmando; 01-03-2021 at 09:43 AM.. |

With your 265/35/18 tyre you are already creating 5.7mm arch gap compared to a standard 245/35/19.
I had Ohlins fitted last month and here is a pic of the ride height when the strut is set at 143mm also (maybe +/-3mm if the shop adjusted it a tiny bit during fitting): I plan to have it lowered by about ~6mm further. I've also been wondering why this falls out of Ohlins' recommended measurements, and I think your pic of the end link answers it: the angle that it inserts into the roll bar is no longer perpendicular. Your pic shows a need for a slightly shorter end link, I think I may have to switch to adjustables.

I just went with whatever spring rates the R&T kit comes with, I'm not actually sure what they are.
The car is a weekend road car, and I'm very fussy about comfort. After some testing at different damping settings, I have settled on 15/15 which gives incredible comfort/refinement on harsh road surfaces, while still having way better handling than stock, and giving me the much lower ride height. I'm super happy that I went with this kit.
