Grill replacement issues

Sorry if this topics has been addressed recently before. I picked up a set of gloss black grills from ECS tuning for my '12 e92 only to find out that the mounting tabs and the overall shape of the grill is different from the original set. I've combed through the forums and the general consensus is that there isn't a difference between the pre and post-LCI grills. My personal experience says otherwise. ECS tells me that they don't offer the black grill for my VIN# which I find hard to believe. So far as I can tell, there are two different part numbers:

The grill I bought ECS: 51712158985

The other option on ECS: 51712155450

Anyone else have this experience? Any help is appreciated!

Weird when I plug your car into ECS for the part you ordered it says "does not fit" but I can't find a reason why. Did you try verifying fitment before purchase?

Possibly for the e90 sedan? (Non-m3)

They may have sent you the E92 LCI 3-series front grilles. Which are larger than than the E92 M3.

We offer painted gloss black front grilles as well for your car.

I bought the BMW M Performance (gloss black) grilles from FCP Euro for my 2012 E93 M3, these were the part numbers:

Left: 51712155451
Right: 51712155450

...and they fit perfect. I do know that the non-M3 grilles are different - the tabs are in a different position and won't fit our M3's.

Thanks for the help ya'll. I did find it hard to believe that BMW would have made different grills (both shape and mounting tab location) between the pre- and post-LCI model M3. I think they must have sent non-M3 grills. At least I didn't catch any flack when sending them back.

Go to the dealership and order them. They're not really expensive and I bet ECS was like 9-10 cheaper at best.
