The Dos and Don'ts of Car Meets/Shows/Caravans...

i've never been to a car meet but would love to go.

anything i need to know about car meet/show etiquette....beyond the obvious?

i'm sure there's a lot more people on this forum like me...and while i've done a search for this type of info, it's not the easiest to find. it's scattered through various threads in the archive.

thought it would be cool to have it all in one thread for us noobs to look through.

*EDIT, to add*

riding in a caravan...there's got to be unwritten rules for that ,too.

Just have fun, and act the way you would want others to act towards you (golden rule)

Don't be the clown who tries to accelerate too hard upon leaving. It doesn't look cool and can just cause accidents, or get you a ticket.

Now go to a meet!! They're a ton of fun and a great way to meet other local enthusiasts

do you, or any of you feel a little intimidated that you may not know enough about the cars to carry a conversation?

or should you act like you do in any area of life...if you don't know anything...don't act like you do.... just be sincere in how you ask your questions?

This is a funny thread. It's just a sausage fest with a bunch of gear-heads, not your first time trying to get laid (I hope).

1. Don't bullshit about some piece of automotive knowledge if you don't know

2. Don't exaggerate how much hp your car has or about its performance capabilities

3. Don't do burnouts, rev your motor loudly, or play your music loudly

a sausage fest they may be...but i'm sure you can think of a thing or two that the average person wouldn't know about these things.

Don't be afraid to talk to people you don't know. That's how you meet people. I didn't know anyone at first but now I've met a few good guys.

Sometimes I'm hesitant to go on caravans with people I don't know because I don't know their driving style. The last ones I've been on it seems like common sense and driving etiquette goes out the window. I've seen at least people nearly kill themselves pulling stupid stunts.

Well, I'm going to my first one on Sunday and I'm just looking forward to meeting other people who like their cars. If you think you know nothing, just think about all the new stuff you'll learn. No downside here, I hope!

Just park your car lock it and have a walk around (open your hood if you like so people can have a peek inside). Other then that meet people and have fun.

It's something else if you go on a country cruse with say 10 to 12 or so you stop along the way for coffee, wine tasting or a short lunch you will get to know some people or members from this great forum. Makes for a great daytime outing.

Mostly have fun

As for noobs to look through ... have a look at my signature thread link, below the picture at the bottom (---> Click here for some good stuff I found) you might find items of interest.

Edit ---> Dont's ... went on a cruse last year with around 12 other ///M3's one of the fellows overtook a bunch of us at high speed on not such a nice road (revel rocks etc), I felt like giving him a piece of my mind ... only he left us before I had a chance. Also if you are the leader of the pack, don't speed ... on the same outing the lead guy just took off and everyone followed ... soon a Police car followed us as well ... we slowed down then the frendly police man left ... we assumed he liked M3's

Honestly - just go to make friends and try not to act like a douche or drive like an a-hole.

The meets can be a great place to learn about your car and enjoy the cars of others.

Unless you are rolling in with an Aventador or 458 Italia, there will always be some one with a better right.

Respect others, and you'll earn theirs in return.

Find out beforehand what kind of crowd shows up at the meet you are planning to go to.

It ranges from a bunch of bros to a bunch of old dudes

I know a little about cars and mod'ing but I always come away learning a lot more from everyone. It's always been a good time and I have made some great friends.

Enjoy!

If your in socal there is a canyon cruise meet every last saturday of the month. Its about a 3-4 hour meet. Check out the facebook page Eurotopia Canyon Meet. There are a few m3s that come out. Much more fun than standing around and seeing who has the most mods lol.

Having recently just joined a club about a month ago where I live, pretty much everything people have said is accurate. Just go and be yourself. Ask questions, and admit if you don't know something. Don't lie about your ride, and drive safely. Don't be cutting eveyone off, and let others cut in front of you if they get in a pinch.

If videos are being taken, do your fly bys when you can, but don't go crazy. Most important thing is to just enjoy yourself and learn!
