Best Solution to Remove Tape Residue?

Long story short, my spoiler flew off while driving, likely on the freeway. A bit scary, considering I was driving at normal highway speeds, but wondering if having the car washed the day before caused some liquid or soap to get under the spoiler and dislodge it? (spoiler has been on the car for ~3 years now with no issue, although my e92 is not my daily driver, but the car has been on the highway plenty)

I’ve ordered a new spoiler, but wondering if anyone has any suggestions for the best cleaning solution to safely wash away the remaining 3M tape residue without damaging the paint abd also ensuring the new spoiler sticks properly for the long haul.

Thanks in advance!

You can use a 3M rubber wheel, or take an old valve-stem rubber and attach it to a drill to use it the same way.

Adhesion promoter is your best friend when applying 3M tape. Lightly scuff the bottom of the new rear wing so the tape and adhesion promoter can create a stronger, more secure bond.

For the trunk, make sure the surface is completely free of oils, since contamination can cause premature tape failure. A wipe-down with 99% isopropyl alcohol followed by adhesion promoter works well.

Thank you very much; I really appreciate the advice!

I know this is a bit old, but the 3M rubber wheel has worked very well for me. Make sure you take it easy on the paint as it is possible to get it too hot and burn it. I'd watch a few videos beforehand.
