2008 e92 w/ 59000 kms (36 7000 miles), and about 15-20 track days
I purchased the car from a friend last fall with the condition that I change the bearings. This was something I obviously wanted to do if I was going to pursue the purchase. The car is in impeccable condition, and well maintained. It has some aftermarket modifications that were installed at approximately 45 000 kms, including an Akra exhaust w/ X-pipe and BPM stage 2 tune. The state of the bearings was always an unknown, and as everyone here knows, the bearings should be checked to feel somewhat at ease. I chose to install the BE bearings with additional 025 top clearance/ARP bolts, and figure I'll only put on between ~7500kms/year.
For anybody in the Ottawa area considering replacement, I had my bearings swapped at AutoBahn Tuning in the south end of Ottawa (Manotick). Todd did a great job, and seems to know these cars pretty well. Thanks to Autobahn/Todd (and Chris?) for doing a great job. As for the picture, I'm not sure of the bearing order, and just took them out of the box and lined them up. There is some pretty bad wear, but the crankshaft appeared to be unharmed. I'll most likely wait 1000kms to change the oil, and then get a Blackstone analysis done to have a baseline. This is only a summer car as Ottawa winters are pretty harsh, so I'm hoping to go about 10 years before I have to look at the bearings again. |

Just had the OEM RBs replaced with VAC bearings and ARP bolts.
Just under 82K on the car. I purchased the car just over a month ago and got it right in to get them replaced (only drove it about 2 hours total during that time). Did a BSL analysis and eveything checked to a healthy running engine...sorry for the shitty pics. |
