Question Feedback request: Superspint Race v F1

Gents
Appreciate experienced insights/thoughts...

Currently running a RPI Sport axle back.
Sounds great up to ~4.5K rpm, then note becomes 'flat'...meaning ~5-8K no discernible increase in note at higher revs.
(likely limited by design, flow, back pressure)
Determine which next axle back set-up:
  • Supersprint Race vs F1
  • Mated to existing catless quad resonated X-pipe
  • Stage II tune [Alpine]
Considerations...
> Any SS drone likely mitigated by existing quad resonators.
> Deciphering what to anticipate from SS exhaust models for most 'exotic' note.
> Looking for best overall enhanced sound volume/spectrum [i.e. low, mid, hi rpm]

...comments?

Could the x-pipe with quad resonators be the cause of the flat sound above 4.5k rpm? Drone generally comes from the axle-back muffler design. I’ve never heard the SS F1 in person, is it known to drone badly?

My understanding, resonators purpose is drone mitigation; quads eliminate rasp.

The RPI muffler does not contain a helmholtz chamber, thus the original rationale for quad set-up.

Guessing this combo adds a bit more back pressure/suppression with the catless X-pipe than a 'straight pipe' system; result reducing tones.

I’ve always thought resonators are used to fine tune the sound by filtering out unwanted frequencies. I suppose drone is like an unwanted frequency so maybe they do help reduce drone. However, in my personal experience, drone’s always been an aftermarket muffler related issue.

EDIT: I misread drone when you clearly stated rasp

I always hear members on this forum tout that resonators don’t reduce overall volume but mitigate unwanted “resonance” or tones. I’ll be the first to say that removing all resonators from my x pipe absolutely made my exhaust louder. It definitely increased drones rasp as well but to say they do not reduce volume is incorrect in my andectoal experience.

Edit* for clarity I am catless and run an eisenmann race. Originally had a dual resonated MS x pipe but switched to a pipe with no resonators and it was certainly a few decibels louder.

I agree definitely impacts volume. Current setup is a resonated catless BW xpipe with Eisenmann race and sounds great, just a bit of drone. I wonder what the F1 sounds like compared to erace.

Similar if not the same. I posted a video in the other thread of my SS Race w/ test pipes.
I have not heard the F1 in person, but it does have an internal helmholtz chamber which I'm sure with quite done any drone the Race produces. At this point, I'm used to any cabin drone the Race produces, which there is some in lower RPM in certain gears.

Aesthetically, this is the best looking exhaust for this chassis, and the polished stainless steel looks really good from behind.

I had a SS Race F1 exhaust with stock Xpipe. It is very quiet. It passes 90dB days on Laguna Seca.

Video of a very quiet SS F1 race.

There is some slight boominess under 3KRPM when fully loaded, but otherwise one can engage in a conversation with passengers on the freeway without raising voices.

I have an Evolve xpipe coming inbound. I am curious if there will be drone or not with secondary cat xpipe with 2 resonators. This video is what my setup will be in the near future.

derbo luv the vid along with your F1 Race impressions
...hopefully my current quad resonated X-pipe continues to eliminate rasp & drone while preserving F1 notes and freer flow than the RPI axle back.

2010 BMW M3  [9.37]

Here is my E92 with SS race (not F1) and BW x-pipe, catless, non-resonated. Typical 2.5-3K drone, but easy to manage.

I have this exact setup (SS F1 race + evolve xpipe). Good news is there isn’t much drone, but tbh I’m a little bit disappointed with it. I was hoping it would sound closer to the full supersprint setup (my dream setup, but very $$$ for a catted version): https://youtu.be/Icws2SyMpgU?si=TfOzO2hM3kF6xs1_

The resonators + 200 cell cats in the evolve xpipe result in a lot less rasp and a more deeper tone (I’m looking for the opposite).

I used to have Eisenmann race with test pipes, but it was way too deep and “boomy” for me, and it droned a lot. The SS F1 Race sounds way more exotic and high pitched. I also think the SS mufflers/tips look the best out of any exhaust system out there.

Last I checked the SS version is close to $3800 just for the xpipe section! I actually enjoy the deeper tone of the SS F1 on its own so that sounds like it might be retained a bit?

Yes definitely retained. Don’t get me wrong, it sounds very good. But ultimately I was looking for that very high pitched, exotic sound which I think suits the e92 m3 well.

Oh it does! I have a feeling it won’t pass Laguna 90dB days either way… guess illl have to suck it up to higher dB days

Question 2nd Survey - SS Race vs SS F1

Current set-up - Catless w/quad resonated X-pipe

My Target Sound Characteristics:
  • Volume ~8/10
  • Zero drone
  • Minimal rasp
  • 'Civilized' at highway speed/rpm
Key questions...
Given my current X-pipe set-up, does SS Race fit the bill?
OR
Will SS F1 be somewhat 'muted', due to combo of both helmholtz chamber + current quad resonator X-pipe set-up?
Since my RPI axle back is sport v race; wish for more than an incremental volume/tone increase.

Here's what SS says:
"That means, the difference between the two versions is just the character and level of Sound:
Rear-silencers "RACING": "classic Racing Sound
Rear-silencers "F1-RACE": Racing-Sound especially in the high rpm-range more "screamy" and louder (similar like a Formula 1 car; therefore the name)"
All said, which makes sense...thoughts?

I'm pretty sure the SS Race and F1 Race sound very similar. One just drones less than the other due to the Holmholz chamber. SS needs to put stupid jargon to justify the hefty price tag.

Just FYI was talking with Supersprint on WhatsApp (+39 348 895 5481) and you can get a 25% discount if you order directly through them.

WOW
a5m great find and many thanks for sharing

Checked SS US site, it's in Euros...by chance did SS provide a promo/discount code?

My pleasure

No code. You buy it directly through them via whatever method they're using. I assume they email you an invoice. I'd message and ask just to confirm.

Evolve xpipe + SS F1 Race.

smokinjoe64

It is a rather low rumble growl and the drone is present if the throttle is loaded below 3K RPM. Otherwise it's fairly tolerable for now.

I'm heading to Laguna 4/1 and I'll see if the sound booth can do a volume check on my car.
