I agree with the many posts above saying "get what you want!"
And I also second the comments about the extra weight, even if it is to be used just as a DD. I can feel the difference when I have one passenger in my car, and two makes a huge difference. An E93 is like an E92 with those 2 passengers ALWAYS in the car. Don't do it if that's not really what you want!

I too was very tempted to get a vert because of the monthly price but in the end, I always live by the motto "if your gonna spend the money then get what you want!". 70k+ is allot to spend on a car that you are unsure of and may leave you feeling regret. On my car I didnt skip on any of the options I wanted because like I said, if I am already going to be spending that much money then I am going to be sure that I get exactly what I want!
On the other hand though, I am sure that there are going to be nice sunny days where you drop that top and love the Vert. But other days where you see an E92 on the highway and then hate your vert.

It seems that many if not most of those who say the E93 is too heavy or drives significantly different have never actually driven both
Aside from the need to know they have the faster car for some, I think the decision on the vert is more properly decided based on comfort with the design and more limited space, both of which should be more deal breakers. In my case they were not and the top down experience is worth the more limited trunk space and different roof line. With all that being said, if you really want or like the coupe and need to justify compromising for the vert, get the coupe.

I just did a few calculations and I guess in the end $50 really doesn't matter much. But I still will feel guilty about the money....at least until I have my car in the garage. (ordering - 2 or 3 month wait)

I wouldn't feel too guilty about the $50, but rather the other $800.... the new Elantra you can get for $154 a month I think I saw on the tv....

@OP: If you want to get the coupe, get the coupe. Since the coupe is lighter, it should get better MPG. I wonder if that difference is 50$/month in gas

Not according to BMW. Same mileage for DCT equipped cars. For 6 speed cars however, E93 is 1 MPG less than coupe in City, same for Highway.

Hey man. All in all, get what you will be more happy with. That's the bottom line. When I first placed my order with BMW, it was a Sedan. Then 2 months later, I changed my order to a convertible , taking into consideration that I would be keeping my dodge ram quad, so if needed, I'd have the extra room. After 6 months... I don't regret it not one bit. Being that the vert weighs 400lbs more, I wouldnt be tracking the anyways...and the only way you would see the weight difference is if you raced against another M3. Also the vert is a "hardtop". It's like like having 2 cars. And being an M3, you would smash your average car in every way. And to be honest, anytime I pass another M3 on the street on in a parking lot, the owners ALWAYS look. I'm talking "rubbernecking". And the sad part about it is that I don't even have the top down most of the time (being the winter season).*
You can't lose with the M3. With the vert, nothing can beat the "top down " experience. Just my 2cents. |

It's funny how people struggle to take what they want even when it's already in reach.

Really? $50. Anyone else think this is little ridiculous???
I am all for saving. Hell I am 26 and the majority of my money goes in to savings and investments. I killed myself over what options I wanted on my car, but cost never came into the picture. I figure I am going to have this car for a while (who knows how the next m3 will turn out) but $50 dollars...really? I had a 3k deposit down on the 1M since I returned from Afganistan in Oct, so when it looked like I wont be able to get one, I optioned out the M3 exactly how I wanted it and am perfectly happy(love getting the S65). I guess it is different point of views but I have hard time understanding the the dilemma for an extra $50 a month for the car you want. |

I had looked at a 550i and when compared to an M3 vert, it was cost less (even loaded) BUT was something like $200 more month on the same lease terms.

If you are concerned about performance get the less expensive car and spend the money saved on professional high performance driving instruction (Skip Barber, Bonderant, M-School) etc.
The extra weight of the E93 can definitely be felt but most of the people here carrying on about it probably have never gotten close to the limits of the car (as opposed to getting close to their own limits). If you are not going to take the car to the track the performance difference is irrelevant and if you are serious about tracking you are eventually going to want a dedicated track car anyway, CA

Neither, get the E90.
Joking aside, I've never driven an E93, but that is serious weight. $50 extra a month is a no brainer for something you're sure you will enjoy.

I drove a heavily modded vert and it still didn't feel as quick and nimble as my coupe, which was stock at the time. Get the coupe with a moonroof, problem solved. The moonroof equipped car weight 40lbs more than the CF roofed car. That's 10 times less weight than the steel hard top and you get the best of both worlds.

And lets be honest here...its not like $50 a month is going to break the bank. $200 more a month, I could start understanding that. What made to go for M3 over the 550i? The 550i is slick even though it is a little overweight. |

In the end it was missing my E46, the killer lease terms on the verts and wanting to get into the last of the NA M's before they are a picture in somebody's coffee table book on cars years from now under "Great Cars Long Gone".
