Getting Rid of Chrome on E93

Hi All,

I am quite new to this site and have a few questions from the experts out there that have removed all chrome off their current vehicles. Wondering what suggestions you might have. I hate the look of chrome ever since I have blacked out the M3.

Any input would be most appreciated.

Thanks,

BS

You can change the trim but I Think it is quite costly. You may want to have a chat with your local wrap shop? Most things can be wrapped quite niecely these days.

That was a suggestion from a few other people I know. You are right about the trim being costly to change. Thanks for the recommendations.

BS
I had the bonnet, side vent and trunk spoiler done several times playing with colours. The wrap comes out very nice and again is relatively cheap.

I actually did mine with flat black plasti-dip and it looked pretty good. Took a long time to tape off and paper everything for the overspray though.

This. Plasti dip is the way to go. Much cheaper than wrapping and you can do it yourself with much ease. Seriously, I don't know why people don't plasti dip more.

What is a fair price to wrap the e93 chrome trim? Thanks. Does it hold up?

Mine has been wrapped in a glossy black vinyl for at least 3 years. So far it has held up fine. I have used plasti-dip on other cars but that gives a more matte finish and is not as durable.

The convertible is an easy trim to do yourself. Since it isn't one whole piece, you have it broken into small sections that are fairly straight, making it a much less challenging process.

Go online and buy a good amount of 3M vinyl. You can choose matte black, gloss black, or satin black and get to work. Should be under 50 bucks and take a Saturday. You might get some quotes over 300 which isn't worth it to me. I had fun wrapping the trim on my car.

I got a few estimates to get mine wrapped in gloss black. They range from $300-$500 (rough estimates based on a phone call). I spec'd no seams on the piece around the bottom of the rear window which seamed to jack the price up a bit...

A bit high, but I prefer to have someone who knows what they're doing install it and have it look perfect rather than me screw it up a few times and then take it in and have it done anyway.

I have gloss black kidneys and gills on the way too. Can't wait!

I think I paid $300. Yes, holds up nicely. Make sure they do the chrome under the rear window.

I plastidipped my front grilles a couple of years ago. 15k miles later, driven year round including snow and rain, they look great. If i had chrome window trim, I'd probably wrap it or paint it. I plastidipped the 15 year old black window trim on my E36M3 and it did not come out perfectly, but it was old and had some rust.

I am getting quotes in the $300-$400 range. Will post before and after pics once the job is completed.

Thanks all,
