Drove my E92 M3 almost 500 miles yesterday

Went for a drive from Los Angeles area up the 5 freeway north to the 126 West to the 101 West (north) to San Luis Obispo (SLO) where we took US1 to the coast (to Morro Bay) and then continued up US1 past Cambria to San Simeon where we viewed Hearst Castle up "on the hill" and the ocean. That's as nice as it gets for coastline. Came back down US1 to Highway 46 which we took to and through Paso Robles and then onward to the 5 freeway south which we took back into Los Angeles.

The car did everything right. It's comfortable, drives great, handles beautifully and all that power made for incredible passing (I especially enjoyed passing a long line of cars on highway 46 at 100 MPH - did that several times). Got it up to 115 MPH on deserted stretches of Highway 46. I sure am glad I have the V1 - it saved me several times and out there and on the 5 freeway it's almost as good as a CHP-detector.

Going back home south on the 5 freeway a pickup (previous Tundra model) blew past me (I was doing 90). That was the only vehicle to pass me on the entire trip except when I was in civilization (in towns). I paced him and he was doing 115 MPH (in a pickup!). He slowed down when the 5 and 99 merged right before the Grapevine.

I've done this kind of driving before and some of those times it was in my Boxster S. That car was a dream to drive - extremely well balanced, perfect steering and brakes - but it just didn't have the power I wanted. This E92 is an incredible car to pilot on this kind of a drive. What a fun day driving the mountain passes with beautiful scenery in a great-handling, powerful performance car.
