Launching the car with high revs and slipping the clutch vs just stepping on the gas at low revs.
The rolling start is more of real world application....the high torque cars will typically have better times. Last edited by sensi09; 01-02-2012 at 04:34 PM.. |

This new 991 is getting more tempting by the day. I will certainly be test driving it when it arrives at the dealer as a probable replacement for my M3. Really hope it sounds better this time round...

I was thinking the same thing but I think the ZR1 is considered somewhat of a ringer in this company.

Yes, so tempting. Fortunately the Carrera S price tag has kept me at bay.

The GTR is becoming less interesting to me... The vette TOP end is in beast mode. Handling on the vette is beast as well.

Hooray for the 991. 130k is steep but it is a lot of car.
If it were my Cs, i'd take it without PDK and some steel brakes. 115k for that beauty is nothing i'd be ashamed of, all things considered.

I was looking forward to selling my 09 c2s and purchasing the new 991 but the pricing is just ridiculous. I think I'll just stick to my 997 or start looking for a used second generation 997 gt3.

All in all, I would still take the GTR. I read the article over and some things don't really add up. How believable is it that the Carrera S traps 118 MPH with a 400 HP crank motor? Isn't that only like 360 or so to the wheels... I don't buy it. Also buying a non turbo Porsche for that much money is outrageous.
Z06 is a horrible daily driver and the interior electronics are incredibly primitive. While an amazing car that I've driven numerous times; it takes a very particular driver to live with one on a day to day basis. GTR wins as far as performance, aftermarket potential, and definitively overall value.

Totally agree! They must be running out of cars to do group comparo. I thot the GTR was supposed to square up against the 911 Turbo.

It's like comparing neck ties or wallets, certain brands have higher entry points, the 911 Carrera S, competing with a GTR, or a z06 in competition with a Carrera S? Carrera S, really not in the same class as the z06 or the GTR. This should really be the Turbo S, not just S. Porsche is more expensive, but it always has been more expensive than a Nissan. To me, it very much appears as apples and oranges. Look at all of the inconsistencies, I would argue that these cars are not even in the same class. Different Engines, HPs, Chassis styles. The GT-R and the z06 are some what similiar, but not really as the GT-R carries a back seat, AWD, and paddle shift technology. If the GT-R is going to be compared, it needs to go up against a comparable car, with AWD, Turbo and a car without manual transmission. |

I do not get this reasoning. Many people want to know for x amount of money (in this case around 100k give or take), which car can I buy with that best performance and this kind of test addresses this. A porsche turbo is in a different price point all together. All 3 of these are pretty much one step away from supercars and deserve a comparison given their price similarity. The 2012 S is likely going to perform ahead of the 997 gt3 so its not like we are talking the 997 S here. The 991 S is so much farther ahead of the 997 its not even funny. 400 hp, completely aluminum, lighter, more rigid, better suspension and numbers to back it up |

The point here is that Porsche is a horrible value as a new car mainly because they really nickel-and-dime you with the options, which when all totaled, can add a significant chunk to the price of the car. However, in the used market, they are a tremendous value as these expensive options often don't add much to the used value of the vehicle. As with many high end cars, you can buy find one with less than 10,000 miles at huge savings. This is the way to go with Porsche.

Also, due to the design, p-car can but the power to the ground better. Another advantage is the very aerodynamic shape. Btw, I don't understand why people here are complaining about the price tag. Do you think the 991 turbo will be priced less than 997 turbo?
