Cold Start Problems - Advice needed!
So i've been having issues only when starting when the car is completely cold (aka overnight). Car would crank for while before starting. Sometimes it would start in limp mode. However, After shutting down, and restarting right after, car starts up perfectly. CEL disappears as well. The only code remains is a 27CE fuel pressure code.
This all occurred after swapping out throttle actuator bank 2. So far i've replaced the battery, fuel pressure sensor, EKP Module, Pre-cat O2's. I've been logging the fuel pressure and i'm getting abnormally high readings. When i unlock the car which enables the pump to prime, i'm reading 675KPA - 6.75 BAR. When the car is idling - 4 BAR. When driving, it sometimes reaches 7.25 BAR (Will verify again). Fuel pressure seems to drop 1 BAR after 15 - 20 Min of sitting after initial pump prime (580KPA) TIS is showing 3 Bar as spec for idle and 5.55 - 6.85 bar while running. I'm thinking my fuel pressure regulator in driver side tank is bad. Any thoughts? Last edited by svinfinity; 06-27-2018 at 08:01 PM.. |

I think you’re probably right that you need to look at your regulator.

Bad news. Left the car for 3 days and started up this morning. Still long crank and misfire/limp mode on start up. When restarting, all goes away and no codes except limp mode stored. Any other ideas? I have a replacement fuel pump i can try but i'm not even sure this will fix it. Strange it only happens when the car sits until completely cold.

It only takes a few minutes to swap out the pump side.

I'm hoping it is the pump causing issues. The only clue i've gotten from the car is a Fuel pressure code after the limp modes and i've changed the battery, fuel pressure sensor, EKP module, Fuel Sender Unit so far. Would a throttle actuator cause my issue since it popped up after swapping a bad one out...

So right now, the engine still cranks a bit before starting? Yet it doesn't go into limp mode to throw a fault code?

Yes, it cranks and wants to start, can see the needle pop up and down before start. If you watch the video on my first post, you can see whats going on. Almost like its choking for air. I’ve found several other individuals and videos of the same issue. No codes except limp mode and misfire on all cylinders. Literally 5 seconds later i turn off and restart, 0 codes except the stored limp mode. Im leaning towards ICV or bad TA. This started happening when i replaced throttle actuator bank 2

That is curious. With no codes stored there's really not much to go off of. I'd try to see if you can get live data recorded while you're starting it cold. Then compare that to another recording of a warm start. That might help narrow down what to look for when you don't have any faults to reference.

Subscribed. I'm encountering some of the same issues and on the same path of replacement parts with fuel pressure sensor and actuators already installed.

OE tune. I've replaced the fuel pressure sensor, both actuators, and have the pass. side 02 sensor, and fresh plugs all ordered with install next week.

I definitely think the issue is cold start conditions based on the 02 sensor, whether fuel pressure is down, or whether ignition is off a bit. Won't hurt to have these parts installed, cost wise.

So far i've replaced: Battery Driver Primary o2 (Had a code a while back but deleted and never came back) Fuel Sensor (twice in case 1st was defective lol) Fuel Pump EKP module Fuel sender unit in driver side tank Fuel Pump (Passenger side) I have a new ICV on order. It's possible that my bank 2 actuator is not good as it started when i replaced this. my Spark plugs were done within 5k Miles. Will replace passenger o2 because why the fuck not at this point. |
