You can solve this issue by purchasing a 12V cigarette USB charger capable of putting out 2.1A or the default 1A
The car's USB is probably supplying <1A to the phone. Combined with GPS use and music, it may seem like it's barely charging |

Part of it has to do with the age of the car. When CIC was introduced, we didn't have these power-hungry devices like the 6s Plus and S7. Four years ago, it probably did charge the smaller phones.
At the very least, it will hold the charge steady on newer devices.

Actually with Waze on and Pandora I loose power at a very slow rate, but on my business trips which are sometimes 6-8hrs of driving in a day, I can't make it.
