Moving to Victoria

As stated, I will be moving to Victoria from Saskatoon. I just wanted to throw that out there in the hopes that there may be some other M3 owners in Vic that can let me know where to take my car if I need maintenance.

Cheers,

Thanks for the info. How is the car scene in Victoria?

Cheers,

I'm not much of a car scene guy but like to do one track day a month. There's an event at Island Motorsport up in Duncan on April 20 being put on by Speed Fanatics if you're interested.

Groovey. What is the typical track day cost there?

It's always through driving groups at a ridiculous cost of $450 - $500

There are more option for both shops and track days if you’re willing to venture over to Vancouver. The group I’m with host track days down in Olympia Washington (45mins from Seattle) for $300, $255 early bird.

Hay welcome to one of the best places on earth... what part of Vic you moving to? I take my car to progressive motor sports as the owner is a good friend and they know there stuff. They work with Mark at VCM referring clients etc. Back and forth as they specialize in Audi mainly. Can’t go wrong with either as they both know there stuff. If you need help buying a place just give me a shout cheesy sales pitch sorry but would love to help a fellow M fan anytime.

Interested. Tell me more. What is the group? Is there a website with the event days?

Vic does seem pretty nice!! We found a place just east of Langford for now. Crappy thing is I have no way to get my M3 to Victoria from Saskatoon until the mountain passes are not snowy as I only have PS4S tires... Not having my M3 in a place where I can actually drive my M3 will kill me...

Thank you for the shop recommendations. I have a great group of car friends here in Saskatoon and I hope to find some like minded car people in Victoria too.

Cheers,

Oooof

I pay that much to go door-to-door racing in Edmonton... Oh well - pay to play I guess.

I will not have my M3 in Victoria until May so I will miss the first session. We will see what the year throws my way.

Cheers,

Put your car on a train and pick it up in Vancouver. I had mine delivered from Ontario that way.

Huh, never really thought of that... By the time I fly back and drive out, given the M3's staggering fuel efficiency, it will likely be the same cost as shipping.

I will get a quote for rail. Thanks for the great idea!

Cheers,

The track day is organized by The Speed Syndicate, a shop in Burnaby. They mainly use facebook (and revscene) to pass information around. Sign up and info are on motorsportreg.

Here are the sign up list as of last month. So status might have changed by now. I'm going on the June and July date.

May 12
Group A: 6/25
Group B: 20/25
Group C: 7/25 (room for first timers)

June 23rd:
Group A: 14/25
Group B 22/25
Group C: 25/25 (no more room first timers)

July 7th:
Group A: 5/25
Group B: 24/25 (no more room for first timers)
Group C: 0/25

September 1st:
Group A: 4/25
Group B: 5/25
Group C: 1/25

Here are links to the sign up:
May 12 -

June 23rd -

July 7th -
https://www.motorsportreg.com/events...rse-tss-836603

September 1st -
https://www.motorsportreg.com/events...rse-tss-834424

Another group I follow is BMW BC, https://bmwccbc.org/events/
They host many events like HPDE, car control clinic, dancing with the cones (auto cross), car shows, cruises, and tech talks. Note this group do HPDE out at Mission and that is a very small and tight track. Part of the track is actually part of their drag strip, so yes it is THAT small. So most people don't prefer Mission and make the drive down to the Ridge in Olympia or to Area 27.

This year is the first time BMW BC will be doing HPDE out at Area 27 in Oliver BC, about 4 hours drive from Vancouver. I've never been to Area 27 but from what I hear it is THE track to go in the north west. I'm probably going to sign up for Area 27 with them once they release more info.

For sure look into shipping the car out. They don't really sweep roads through the rocky mountains till about mid June. Driving through there before they sweep the highway will be like sand blasting your car.

Awesome! Thanks MaximusB. I did the "dancing with the cones" this past Sunday and will be at Mission with the BMW club in May. I'm probably going to sign up for their fall Area 27 event as well.

Awesome! I would love to do Area 27 but just a little unsure about going in that late in the season. Although I'll still most likely go. Just not sure about the logistic of getting there because technically we'll need snow tires to drive up to Oliver after October 1st. Also I heard it rains from September on-wards in Oliver.

I'm probably going to put all season tires on for the drive and just bring track tires in the back seat and trunk.

That is awesome info. I have had a WCMA road race licence since 2006 and I have raced in numerous Chump races. I assume that group B or C would be fine for me if I decided to sign up? Likely will not flog the car hard enough to ever think of group A (sure sure, yeah, sure).

Cheers,

Who did you ship with? Got one quote but it was for a covered carrier. $2200 to Vancouver... That is a little more than I thought it would be.

Let me know if you could please.

Cheers,
They might put you in group A to start. The groupings are A for advance/experience drivers, B for intermediate and beginners, C is reserved for bikes. They’ll turn group C into a car group if there are more than 25 cars on the wait list and not enough bikes. In that case then C will be for beginners.

Best is to contact the organizer to see which group is best for you. They move people around on the day if needed.

I shipped with Livingston in a covered carrier from Toronto to Vancouver for $980 taxes in. But was done on 2014.
