First time at VIR this past weekend and I'm in love! I think I like it more than Road Atlanta honestly. Had a ton of fun, but did run into an issue...

I think at some point during my 2nd session I lost one of the bolts for my left rear caliper bracket. I started hearing a weird sound like a mix of bad wheel bearing and scraping dust shield but definitely not one or the other and was only at certain times and wasn't that loud. Checked all the lugs and checked the bearing for play but didn't take the wheel off. Ran 2 more sessions and it started getting louder and more frequent so I took the wheels off and got ready to dig in deep. My first hypothesis was that maybe the ebrake shoes weren't fully releasing and were barely scraping the hub. I almost deleted them when I installed my solid subframe bushings but decided not to. Well I figured the time has come, so fuck it. Started with the right rear, then went to the left rear...well first of all, here's the shoe off #weightsavings

So then I got around to the left rear and start to take the caliper bracket off and notice...

The bottom metal part of the brake pad was eating my rotor hat alive since it had no bolt to keep it pushed away!!! Luckily there's a performance shop right outside the complex that hooked me up with a spare bolt. Got that fixed and everything went smoothly afterwards.

Also took the chance to sneak onto the scales that the TT-ers and racers were using (I did ask permission). This is half a tank of gas with me in it, that puts the car with full tank of gas right about 3500lbs exactly. Not too bad for having aftermarket xpipe + muffler, fixed back drivers seat, rear seat delete, and add back in weight for harness bar and the burger and fries I had for lunch

And a few more things to share (at least it's not 1 big post!)

Talked to one of the TT/race guys (JP Marketing) and he had an interesting solution for fender vents. He said they were E46 fender vents (I believe these from N15) and he just slightly "massaged" them to get the curvature correct. He also mentioned that it's a big benefit for DCT because it helps dissapate heat from the DCT cooler.

Next up is an S65 swapped E46 M3! He was running detuned to 365whp but had a custom map for a better power band. (@racerwong.shooterwong on IG)

And don't know if you guys have seen these before but these trailers by futuratrailer are very cool. It uses an electric wench along with pivoting "arms" (whatever you want to call it) to lower the whole floor.

Looks like they make an E9x specific model now:

Looks like the same car in the pics too.

Hmmm, might have to pull the trigger on these.

Well that's what I get for not spending 30 extra seconds googling

Good catch!

Here’s one of my better laps! Hoping to have a go pro and AIM solo dL soon. Tired of HLT videos hah. Used selfie camera so g’s are reversed. First time on those tires, RRs and coilovers, clubsports. A little slidy; so hoping to dial in more camber (only -2.4 front), and perhaps soften the compression a bit

I also need to submit an avg hp so I can shed more weight. All info in description

Good stuff. A couple of places that I think you can pick up time
* faster through uphill esses. I know it's scary but you can be 10 mph faster through there
* carry more speed through 11. End of braking is almost the apex of 12
* E36 messed you through rollercoaster, but you brake at hog pen (as far left as you can be) and then coast to final apex before straight, but 100% throttle right at apex.

Here's me chasing Jens last summer.

Awesome tips! I'll definitely keep these in mind for Hyperfest! Thank you

Nice! I was hoping you were recording since I never got a chance to ride with you. Very interesting to see the comparison. I managed a 2:12 with a Harry's potential of 2:10, so definitely a lot to work on. I know for sure I need to carry more speed through the uphill esses and into 10, 11 and 12 I still haven't gotten a rythm down, and I need to brake much later into 13. And I need to tweak the settings on my camera/find a different mount...

Here's my lap (start at 2:10ish if the timestamp doesn't work)

Cool! It was your first time there correct? I think the overall theme and tip I could advise, and it was something I noticed when I was at turn 4 taking photos is that you are on the gas prior to apex, which most coaches will say this is you over slowing for the turn, or what the sim racers do in real life which is pegging at the gas pedal versus 1 smooth motion (I do this too and I need to break that habit).

I would try to stay lighter on the brakes, carry more corner entry speeds and back on the gas at apex or right after it. Heavy gas prior to apex + steering inputs, your grip won't be too happy and I'm sure the car will try to do weird things at that point
