There are too many "gotchas" with an NBT retrofit, many of which don't seem to be frequently discussed on the forums.. about six months ago I was getting close to pulling the trigger, got a formal quote for the CIC to NBT retrofit and on the quote it listed a few things that would no longer work properly, or a disclaimer that there may be minor audio issues, etc.. I didn't proceed with it.

I'd be happy with wireless carplay. If and when its released I'll definitely be buying one it my '12 E93 M3.

For those of you chasing one of the non-wifi JoyeAuto carplay boxes, you can still order them from their website ($375USD) from memory. I ordered one on thursday, they told me it would ship in about a week.. so I asked when the wifi versions will be ready and they said in a week. (there's also a video on their facebook page showing "final debugging" of the wifi one)
So I figured if I'm waiting that long anyway I may as well get the wifi version, which they were happy to adjust my order to.

I do have a couple of questions for anyone who already has a joyeauto box;
1. does the voice button on the steering wheel launch Siri or do you have to use 'hey siri'?
2. do the track change buttons on steering wheel work in Carplay ?

Also, does anyone know how the after market reverse cameras work with them? Does it provide the image plus the PDC display and dynamic lines or is that only with OEM camera?

Thanks in advance,
Tim

Looks like they updated their website with the wireless solution.

I don't see it either but I don't remember seeing this earlier in the month when I checked their website.

Edit:

Comments says end of this month (May), which has passed. lol

Pressing the voice button on your steering wheel does not launch siri for some reason. Pressing option on idrive controller does. Skipping tracks with the steering wheel buttons does work in apple carplay. Volume up and down on the wheel also works.

Funny the timing, I rode in two cars this weekend that had ACP and decided it was a must-have retrofit for me. And its the First thing I see when logging in today!
What would be the biggest difference in the wired/wireless versions? I plug my phone in to charge 90% of the time so wondering if its worth it.
I'm a bit impatient, but sounds like the wireless might be worth the wait

We just got an '18 4 series that has NBT w/ CarPlay and its great.. waiting for the wireless version for my '12 M3 w/ CIC.

The current wired version requires that you plug in your phone via a USB to lightning cable to use carplay. The upcoming wireless version is just that - wireless, similar to OEM BMW carplay.

Thanks for the answers bud!
Odd that voice doesn't work but option does, guess it doesn't really matter as long as I have a physical button to launch.. otherwise I'd have to turn the music down or try and shout hey siri over the top of it!

So considering the fact that I plug my phone in (mainly for charging) almost always anyway, sounds like wireless wouldn't benefit me too much as long as it charges my phone well.

And to confirm from posts above, its still possible to switch back to normal mode and use the regular functions e.g. trip counters, maintenance info, etc?

The main reason I opted to wait a bit longer for the wireless version was that it advertises (and a previous poster confirmed, albeit for the NBT version) that the sound quality is much better and includes built in EQ presets.
I've also just fitted a wireless charger into the arm rest so can just drop my phone in there and have charge.
It does seem however, that the wireless version does not support Android Auto, only screen mirroring. The wired version does support Android Auto, but seems to be mixed successes from what I've read.

LoL it looks like Bimmerretrofit is rebranding these wireless joyeauto boxes and selling them on their website for NBT.

They literally just put their sticker over the JoyeAuto branding.

Looks like pre-orders for wireless carplay are now available on the Joyeauto website.
