Question for members. How many of you sourced your rod bearing kits from online or bmw and getting the shop to just perform the labor vs having the shop take care of everything.

Looking at turning motorsport and escturning for rod bearing and they have complete kits as well as engine mounts.

I got mine done from RG last summer. I ordered the kit from EAS. So far so good. I had good experience with RG. Those people know what they are doing.

BE bearings are on backorder until end of March but I will be getting mine done at The Speed Syndicate.

Will update this thread when the BE bearings are in and the car is in the shop.

Engine mounts will be done at the same time as well.

Curious, what are your shops providing in terms of warranty on the job if you're supplying your own bearings and bolts?

$3000.07CDN for WPC at Racing Greed

Probably would have been cheaper if I didn't go to BMW for oil and filter.

However I've heard that shops are charging more now. Around $3500CDN

If i recall, the job book time is 15Hrs x shop rate i believe $105/hr. I had them ordered the BE Kit from ECS, along with engine/tranny mounts at the same time.

They are great guys, feel free to call and inquire and tell them Sammy sent ya!

BE Bearings have been out of stock for a while now. I've been waiting for 4 months and they just told the shop that it's still on back order with no ETA. If you're looking for some, try to get them ahead of time or you'll be waiting like me.

At this point should I keep waiting or get WPC?

Will be thinking about the options. Any luck with other members?

Edit: just saw the BE website and they don't expect to get stock until end up September.

As u might know, some members here said that some shops have them in stock. So I called "the so-called in stock shops" (sv bimmer, autotalent and bimmerworld) yesterday, and Everything is backordered till september.

Supposedly CG Motorsports has stock.

However, VAC is a good option also.

Just got mine replaced finally this week w/ BE bearings + BE-ARP rod bolts.

Not as bad as I had feared without knowing how the previous owner took cared of the car. Cylinder #7 was the worst out of the bunch.

What a feeling to be driving rod bearing worry free

FAST Auto did a fantastic job. Happy camper here. Let me know if any locals here are looking for an experienced shop referral to do this.

Just did mine yesterday. Bought this 2008 6MT coupe a month ago, first thing in my mind is rod bearings before driving it. Now i can really enjoy driving it. Cylinder 1 and 7 seems to show a hint of cooper and clearance is actually just within specs according to plastigauge. 0.038? But it might not mean anything since most ppl dont check at all. So i just assume they are ok lol.

Replaced with BE bearings and BE ARP bolts and engine mounts. Wonder whats going to happen down the road? Is at 93000km now.

Anyone done the rod bearings recently? As noted before the BE bearings are not in stock and TSS mentioned they have the updated BMW OEM rod bearings with an extra layer of coating + misc parts and ARP bolts and was quoted $4000 all in.
