I posted pics and a video of my wreck that happened on Saturday in F80 forum(driver ran a red light).Think there is any chance they wont total the car? Im hoping they will, sounds like a headache if they don't. Any chance they would try to fix it? Front and driver side air bags. It has 62k miles and KBB is $36k

Indeed it is hard to tell from this picture. BTW how fast were you driving at the moment of impact?

Glad to see you are fine!

Looks totaled to me but I'm no expert. Iirc it's like $2500 per airbag alone to replace plus all of the damage to the interior that causes. And you have extensive front end damage. They will tear the car down and assess but like I said that looks totaled. Hope ur ok.

OP- I am glad you are safe and no one was hurt. One of my M cars was in a similar situation not too long ago.

it looks expensive. I am no adjuster but I dont think there is 36k worth of damage there.

FYI try to be there when an adjuster comes to assess the car, some are pretty laid back and will pretty much as you how you feel about totaling or fixing it. if the damage is close to it.

If they total it, ask about the buy back price, I want that red interior!! lol

most insurance companies declare a car totaled if the estimated cost of repair exceeds a certain percentage of the total worth of the car. Some companies will also give you a choice to either total the car or pay out for repair. From this photo I would say it will be totaled.

This.

A "total" is not something where the repair dollars equal or exceed the book value immediately prior to the accident.
A (preliminary) determination is based upon the company's percentage/value guidelines. It's usually in the 75% - 85% area, depending upon the company, the car and the market area.

A final decision takes into account the chances that the repair will ultimately go over the estimate, the owner's history, the integrity of the repaired car, the diminished value, etc. The owner can often have some input.

Assuming $36k book an 80% repair cost here would be close to $29k. Close call in my opinion - but worth shooting for.

Good luck.

I've seen less damaged vehicles totaled, so I'm going with the total crowd.

Why was this posted in the M4 area, btw.

I never said that that the repair dollars need to equal or exceed the book value. Like I said It was to be above a certain percentage of the value of the car not the whole this. I was dealing with a similar situation when someone crashed into my girlfriend's accord. And that is exactly what the insurance company said.
