Strange; order refused for Nitto NT01 275/35ZR18 square setup

I'm putting this in the Track section because I believe it relates.

I attempted to order a set of 4X 275/35ZR18 Nitto NT01 from Discount Tires Direct as I have in the past. This time they called me to tell that they could not sell me those tires for my 08 E92 M3 as the load rating was exceeded on the rears.

I searched around and found the tread splice thread but nothing about this.

Has anyone run into this?

What HPDE tire options are people moving to?

That's really weird. 275 is pretty much the standard square setup. I don't think the load rating has changed.

Could you just take your business elsewhere? Or try talking to someone else at DTD?

They shipped me a new set several weeks ago (when they, with the Ebay discount, were going for $800 a set).

IIRC the OEM load rating for the rears is 98W and these tyres are 95W?
"The load index is a numerical code, which corresponds to the maximum load a tyre can carry at the speed indicated by its speed symbol"
If thats any help.

Yeah I had this happen with tire rack also. What I did was placed the order again but don't specify what car it is for when going thru the order process.

Just say that you are buying 4 fronts or buy two at a time.

ok so i have had a few interactions w/ discount tire over the last month that makes me wonder what major changes has been made in their policy or management.... i have ordered 3 sets from them and everytime they had to order them as if they were going on a different car as the load rating wasnt correct for our m3...so they just placed the order for a regular 3 series i believe....in the past everything was cool...

last week i brought them the car on my trailer and asked them to swap the nto1's that were mounted for a different set that had a few days of use as i wanted to use them up first because the track i was going to had a tire machine on site...so if they corded half way through the day i could have them swapped with my less worn set in between sessions....they said they would not do the swap as both sets of nto1's were below the recommended tread depth..... i tried to explain they are a R COMP with a 100 tread ware and that they had plenty of life left... they also refused to swap them as my car has a stud kit....i then asked why they have done it 100 times in the past so what has changed...they had no response... after going to several tire shops with no luck the only place i found that would help me was les schawb...the catch was they wanted 140$ to do it.... i laughed at them and walked out...

Is this new?

Most of my orders from tirerack or discount tire have been followed by emails or calls from them to "confirm" the order as my orders do not match the OEM profiles. I just confirm that the order is correct and all is well, latest one 2 months ago.

I always take in my wheels in the back of the x5. Also have a shop that has been working with me and gives me a frequent flyer discount.

That is what i always do when order my tires. From my experience, specifying what car is it for, creates nothing but confusion and delay of the order when order r-compound tires. Just make sure you know what you are ordering.

They only expose themselves to risk if they know what the tires are going to be used for. Don't ask, don't tell for M3 owners...

Yeah, they bring this up every time I order. I tell them, "I know what I'm doing...I'm a member on M3post".

Problem solved and you're welcome.

Just had this happen to me too at Discount Direct.
Had to reorder for my "335i" instead ( which comes with a lower rating tire).
the online order form requires you to input a car model to complete.
Got the tires delivered today.

I have never ordered from Discount Direct, but Tire Rack doesnt require to input a car model to place an order.
