Really hope that vibration is fixed! Weird that the OEM driveshaft is having issues at such low mileage

I'm sure partial vibration is caused by all the solid bushings. Interested to see if anything changes

I'd love for you to drive it and let me know your thoughts, Alex.

Hey everyone and welcome back to my journal for my baby Sky.

This update takes place in May 2020.

Now judging by my poor attempt at a riddle, I really hope you got the gist of what I was hinting towards…HEADLIGHTS!!!!

Olives and cars have “pits” as in pitted headlights or bumpers…gosh I really hate pits!

Headlights are just one of those things that when updated/refreshed, they can make a car look new again. Sky is a 12 year old BMW and was daily-driven by the previous owner, was never clear bra-protected, and suffered battle scars that really add to the car.

Some embrace stone chips like gray hair; they say it adds character. As much as I’d like to agree, I personally feel it takes away from the appearance of the car, and can actually create less attention at say a car show (people are more likely to continue walking past a well-built car that has stone chips or pitted headlights, than stop and carefully observe the vehicle in more detail).

Not that I’m building the car for vanity purposes (I mean there’s always a bit of pride in wanting to show off your car and be acknowledged for your build), but yeah, like Gabby the Subaru, the way I’m building Sky is to make people stop and appreciate all of the details and concourse/museum-quality of cleanliness and condition, because trust me I am humbly proud to be able to build the car to this degree.

Sky definitely has a long way to go to reaching the level I’m aiming for, so I thought why not start with giving the headlights a refresh.

Now I was initially thinking small, and considered just getting my buddy at a top-tier body shop to sand/polish them, in hopes to bring life back to them.

As great of a choice that was, I also became worried about the OEM Clear Coat being applied to them being diminished from the sanding and polishing, and having to pay to get them re-cleared.

I scrapped that idea and decided to contact Josh@GTA Retrofits –– a well known Headlight Retrofitter here in Toronto. My main goal for Josh was to retain the OEM look of the stock headlights, but upgrade the performance of lights themselves.

What Josh came up with was the following:
1. OEM E90 M3 Headlight Lenses (Pair)
2. ZKW-R Clear Projector Lenses (Pair)
3. Osram Xenarc 66140 D1S CBI (Pair)
As much as I like headlight options like the DTM style, there’s just something about the OEM headlight design that makes me look no further in changing the appearance…hence why I still have the amber angel eyes.

Please enjoy the pictures from Josh@GTA Retrofits:

YES…Perfection at its finest!! Special thank-you to Josh@GTA Retrofits for the incredible work on Sky’s headlights!

These headlights will go off to Steven@Elevated Auto to get Clear Bra’d to protect from swirls, UV Damage and minimize any sort of pitting.

Thanks for stopping by everyone, and stay tuned for next update where LOTS goes down at Elevated Auto!!

Do you have a part number or source for the OEM headlight lenses? Also, does the assembly have to be baked open to remove the sealant?

They turned out great by the way.

Hey nsogiba, I don't have the part number but here's the link for the headlight lenses themselves:

https://www.bavgruppedesign.com/prod...ght-lens-cover

I don't know the process whatsoever unfortunately, so I don't want to comment any misleading info...maybe reach out to Bavgruppe directly...also if you peruse through their website, they do have an authorized vendor section, so see who's near your area and reach out to them!

Hey everyone, I’m super excited to share this update with everyone!

This update takes place in May 2020.

I headed over to see one of my best friends Steven – owner of Elevated Auto.
Steven as you know does Paint Protection Film (PPF) and Tinting, and I’ve given him quite the job this time:

1) BMW Performance Door Sills
a) Clear Bra with XPEL Ultimate Plus
b) Ceramic Coat overtop with XPEL Fusion Plus

2) Mashimarho Carbon Fiber Steering Wheel
a) Clear Bra with XPEL Ultimate Plus on the Carbon Fiber upper section
b) Ceramic Coat overtop with XPEL Fusion Plus
c) Clear Bra with XPEL Ultimate Plus on the BMW Individual Plate on Steering Wheel Trim Cover

3) eBay M3 GT4-Style Carbon Fiber Front Lip
a) Polish entire lip to remove any fine scratches/swirls
b) Clear Bra with XPEL Ultimate Plus
c) Ceramic Coat overtop with XPEL Fusion Plus

4) Vorsteiner Aero - Carbon Fiber Rear Diffuser Type II
a) Deep cleaning of diffuser front and underside
b) Remove old adhesive
c) Polish front side to remove all oxidation and scratches/swirls
d) Clear Bra with XPEL Ultimate Plus
e) Ceramic Coat overtop with XPEL Fusion Plus

5) BMW M3 Headlights
a) Clear Bra with XPEL Ultimate Plus

For the detailing (cleaning and polishing work), Steven sub-contracted his friend John@AlphaAutoSpa. You all have seen John work his magic before on polishing my Seibon Carbon Trunk and Varis Diffuser prior to Steven applying the XPEL PPF film.

Special thank-you to Steven and John for working their magic (no surprise), and helping me get my car to the concourse level!

I managed to get lots of detailed pictures and videos so please do enjoy:

Thank-you all for stopping by, and stay tuned for next update where I dissect and brainstorm some cool ideas for the stock interior!

Looks great!

More info on the sill pieces?

I've also wondered if I could use a normal E9x 3 series console trim to ultimately delete the Power/EDC/DSC buttons. It gives you a larger shift boot which I actually think looks a bit cleaner. I hate Power mode so I don't use it. Car no longer has EDC shocks and if I really want DSC off I can do it through the controller and setup my M button to have it off.

What I have't been able to find is if they have a version meant for the LCI controller for those of us that do have NAV. Looks like it from some images but would likely require some testing. Would also need to find one in the same finish.

Hey Steve, I tried calling you but I guess schedules didn't align...all good, I'll try to address everything here:

Sill pieces were from the BMW Performance line for Non-M cars.
They are discontinued so a bit hard to come by...I honestly got lucky finding these.

As for the center console, I'll be dissecting it all in this update.

Hey everyone, and welcome back to my journal.

This update I will be exploring some interior areas that I would like addressed at some point in time.

While already a beautiful looking car, exterior upgrades are what most of us do first! Often overlooked is the part of the car that we actually see more...the interior!

My interior definitely is showing its age and could use a good refresh.

After seeing Spencer Berke's video on Brett's (M3Post Member: "slicer") M3, I really wanted to beautify my interior.

Here's a quick pic of his Center dash section:

I really like the dry carbon interior components on his car, and wanted to look more closely at my interior and see what areas need addressing.

Here were some of the areas that caught my eye that I either have replacements for already, or will be replacing soon...enjoy:

One thing I really want to address is the Center Console section. I feel like there's too much going on, even for my non-I-Drive M3. I personally would love if there was no Sunglass/Ashtray Holder, no Coin Holder, and no POWER/DSC Controller.
My buddy Alex (M3Post Member: "acarr6”) was selling his Non M-car BMW Performance Carbon Fiber Center Console. As seen below, (Steve pay attention here), it is absolutely beautiful and features no POWER/DSC Controller:

As much as I like how it looks, I still dislike that it has the Ashtray and Coin Holder section. This is why I decided to get creative and consult my good friend Alex@SpageSport to build me a custom DRY CARBON…yes you read that right, Dry Carbon Fiber Center Console to fit my specifications. In case you don’t know who Spage Sport is, they are the amongst the top Carbon Fiber specialists in Canada, and work on bespoke Carbon Fiber parts for racecars, most notably James Houghton’s Acura Integra that’s been doing GridLife Events, as well as the PZ Tuning Honda Civic owned by Will AuYeung, which competed in World Time Attack.

Alex, the owner of Spage Sport, will also be building custom Dry Carbon Doors, Mirrors, and Widebody for my Subaru STi…but I’m excited I can have him work on a small, yet fun little project for my M3…who knows, maybe I’ll get him to build a Dry Carbon Vented Hood for us E90 guys!

Alex will be taking a mold of the OEM Center Console and will be deleting the Ashtray Holder, Coin Holder, and POWER/DSC Controller to give it a super clean, minimalistic face.

I’m going to have to relocate the POWER/DSC Controller somewhere on the dashboard. I was thinking about maybe cutting a section out of my radio, as seen in the Red Circled areas below, or maybe even get my mechanic to rewire those features into some of the “dummy” buttons on the dash.

A really unique thing we are doing is incorporating my ARC 6-Speed Euro Shift Plate into this Center Console. I originally just wanted to stick it on the top of the finished Center Console, however Alex brainstormed the idea of having the ARC Shift Plate be cutout and recessed into the Center Console in the middle of where the Ashtray Holder is. This would ensure it is flush and leveled with the Center Console itself…this is why he’s the BEST!

A very special thank-you to Alex@SpageSport for helping to make my dream a reality, I hope it turns out exactly as envisioned!

Thank-you all for stopping by, enjoy this teaser for next update:

Hey everyone and thanks for stopping by for another update!

This update takes place in June 2020.

Excited to share with you all some parts that I recently bought that are for all different areas of the car.

So I had 4 separate orders of parts for Sky.

Let’s start off with my initial order from IND. Special thanks to Kat@IND for assisting me with the purchase of my very first 3D Design part…Billet Aluminum E-Brake Handle.

The craftsmanship on all 3D Design Japan parts are of the highest quality. This E-Brake handle features Billet Aluminum construction with Alcantara on the bottom side of the handle…super nice touch if you ask me.

I believe that when paired up with my Mashimarho Alcantara E-Brake Boot w/ Blue Stitching, it will give the interior a POP and totally transform the overall inside appearance!

Enjoy the pictures of it:

Next up I wanted to address something on the exterior of the car that I’m anticipating on having done. My M3 was purchased used at 105,000kms (about 65k miles), and is now at 131k kms (81k miles). The previous owner never had any sort of PPF done to the front end, and as a result the entire front end has numerous rock chips.

In the near future, I do plan on having the front bumper repainted and PPF’d. In prep for the repaint job, I decided to order an Unprimed Tow Hook Cover with Cutout from IND.

I’d be aiming to achieve this sort of look with the Tow Hook Strap slightly sticking out:

Thank-you again to Kat@IND for helping me purchase this part…enjoy the pictures:

Next up, I ordered something that will help bring the motorsport feel to the Interior of the car. I’ve always been a fan of Porsche, especially the 911 GT3RS. Being heavily inspired with the attention to detail and motorsport-inspired parts found in the GT3RS’s interior, I decided to bring that same feel to my M3.

I saw that Hard Motorsport has GT3RS-inspired Carbon Fiber Door Latch Pulls, and I knew that I had to have it. Funny enough, I even have Alcantara Door Straps on my STi Racecar:

Now as you all know, the theme for Sky’s Interior is Blue. So for the Door Straps, I decided to go with the Laguna Seca Blue option that Hard Motorsport offered. Now important to note is that the Carbon Fiber on these Door Latches are designed for Motorsport use, NOT for aesthetic purposes. They are not clear-coated, and may have slight weave flaws as can be seen from the pictures.

I plan to have Steven@Elevated Auto apply XPEL Stealth PPF to protect the Carbon Fiber from oxidizing, as well as preserve the Dry Carbon finish.

Enjoy the pictures:

Finally, I wanted to address the Brakes of the M3. I remember Usic@Total Motor Werkes had mentioned that I should replace the OEM Brake Lines. I did some research and found that people tend to have great reviews with the Spiegler Stainless Steel Brake Lines.

These are the same Brake Lines used on the Essex AP Racing BBKs, so I know that they will perform exceptionally well for aggressive weekend driving and occasional track use that Sky will see.

I purchased these Brake Lines from my friends at Touge Tuning, and am really excited for them to be installed later this summer at Total Motor Werkes.

Enjoy the pictures:

Thanks for stopping by, and be sure to check out next update coming soon!

We’re not quite there just yet Alex…but almost

Hey everyone and welcome back to my journal.

This update takes place in July 2020.

As you last saw, we are now gearing up to get that Carbon Fiber Center Console project underway.

I had my buddy Steven@Elevated Auto come by and help remove my Center Console.

I also recently had 3 recalls done on my car to fully catch me up on my servicing:
  • B Lower Regulator Wiring Harness (61 83 17RC)
  • Driver Front Air Bag Module (72 80 16RC)
  • Power Supply System (61 87 19RC)

Happy to have a brand new Steering Wheel Airbag Cover…it’s going to look great when my Mashimarho Steering Wheel goes on too!

In addition to the Center Console project, I also hinted before at a Front Bumper restoration project. So I had Steven also remove my Front Bumper, in preparation to be sent off to Excellence Auto Collision for the repaint job.

Finally, I had my friend Ken@Auto Glass Worx come by and replace my Front Windshield. Again, the goal with this car is to restore it to museum-level quality. The Front Windshield was pretty beat up with little chips and heavy pitting. As per Ken’s recommendation, we decided to go with the Pilkington option without the BMW logo.

What a difference replacing the windshield makes…I feel like that HD Vision Sunglasses commercial LOL!

Thanks for stopping by and enjoy this little teaser picture:

Hey everyone and welcome back to my journal for Sky!

This update takes place in July 2020.

As you’ve seen from last update, my focus as of lately has been to refresh the entire front of the M3.

What’s been done up to now for the front is fully refreshed OEM headlights, and a brand new Pilkington M3 Windshield.

My friend Steven@Elevated Auto prepped the car last update by removing my Front Bumper. The story with my front end is it’s heavily pitted (stone chips galore) all over the hood, headlights, front bumper, windshield.

The front bumper was the worst of the 4 aforementioned front areas. GUYS, I kid you not, the front bumper was SO PITTED that I stopped washing the front bumper completely.

Looking at the front bumper and it feeling pretty much like sandpaper, it was very discouraging for me to feel the need to clean it (terrible attitude to have, even for a highly motivated and super positive person like myself).

BUT ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!!

I’ve decided that I will be getting the front bumper repainted by my friend’s shop in Toronto called Excellence Auto Collision. My friend Tommy is the Chief Detailer at Excellence, and he highly recommended I give the body shop a shot at bringing my bumper back to life. They have a state-of-the-art facility, it’s extremely clean, and they do incredible work!

In the back of my mind, I know that this is just a temporary solution, as in a couple years (especially when I get my Vented E90 Dry Carbon Hood, and Dry Carbon Doors), I want to repaint the entire car in Silverstone II again to make it museum-quality, and so I’ll buy a brand new front and rear bumper, fenders, and sideskirts unprimed so that there’s definitely slim-to-no-chance of the paint not perfectly matching!

I gave Tommy’s team some instructions for what I was specifically looking for:
  1. Front License Plate Delete and Shaved
  2. Headlight Washers Delete and Shaved
  3. Keep Orange Side Reflectors

We will also be incorporating the IND Front Tow Hook Cover with Cutout into this Front Bumper.

Enjoy some of the progress shots everyone:

Thanks for stopping by and stay tuned for the next update!

The time is here!! Welcome back everyone to a SUPER EXCITING update!

This update takes place in July 2020.

The Front Bumper project is officially complete!!!!

For the front bumper, there are miscellaneous items that I could reuse, but I just figured may as well get brand new replacement parts! Also, having just replaced the windshield, I decided to fully refresh the entire wiper arm and assembly with brand new ones!

I decided to reach out to Turner Motorsport for the following parts:
• BMW E9X M3 Edition Front Kidney Grille Package (51137979349-350)
• Turner Motorsport Blue Poly Tow Strap with Bolt (TMI9020TSI-BLUE)
• BMW Center Bumper Grill (51117900764)
• BMW Front Bumper Hardware Kit (51112410005)
• BMW Wiper Arm Covers (61617138990)
• BMW Windshield Spray Nozzles (61667131299)
• BMW Wiper Arm - Left (61617171639)
• BMW Wiper Arm - Right (61617171641)
• Bosch Wiper Blade Set E90 (up to 09/2009) (61610427668)

Enjoy the pictures everyone, I even did a small little mockup of how the front bumper should look (forgot to include my Orange Reflectors though in the pics):

A very special thank-you to Tommy and his team at Excellence Auto Collision for bringing my Front Bumper back to life and making me want to wash it again.

The M3 will be driven bumper-less to see Steven@Elevated Auto for him to apply the XPEL Ultimate Plus PPF Film onto the Front Bumper, the BMW Edition Front Kidney Grilles, and the Orange Reflectors, amongst a couple other things of course.

I’ve always had the mentality of do it once, do it right! Go big or go home, you better believe we’re going BIG with this M3!!

Thank-you all so much for your continued support and encouragement throughout this journey. I'm humbly excited to continue updating you all as things continue.

Stay tuned for next update...lets just say, we get a little creative!

Hey everyone, and welcome back to my journal!

This update takes place in August 2020.

Awhile back, I hinted at doing a Carbon Fiber Center Console Project with my friend Alex@SpageSport. Well the time is finally here, where I show you all the finished product!!

A quick refresher in case you forgot:
  • I wanted some Carbon Fiber components in the Interior.
  • I wanted to get 100% full Carbon partsnot Fiberglass with Real Carbon Overlayed on top; this would mean going the custom route.
  • I wanted a more minimalistic feel to the Interior, where certain areas were simplified.

I turned my attention initially to Sky’s Center Console.

My car is a Single-Hump (so no I-Drive) E90, which means on my Center Console, I have a little coin cubby. I also have the ashtray holder, and the Power/EDC (No button)/DSC Switch, which I wanted to focus in on.

Keeping in mind the Minimalistic feel, I really wanted this Center Console to be SIMPLE. Here was my gameplan for it:
  1. Delete Ashtray Holder completely.
  2. Delete Power/EDC/DSC completely, and relocate it on the dash and rewire it to the dummy buttons.
  3. Delete Coin Cubby.
  4. Incorporate ARC 6-Speed Shift Plate for a clean look. Alex recommended instead of sticking the Shift Plate on-top of the finished product, he would recess it into the Center Console for a flush feel, as if it was always supposed to be there…me likey!

Here’s a visual in case you prefer actually seeing the aforementioned:

A quick reminder again that this is how my OEM Center Console looks:

So the Console went off to Alex@Spage Sport, and I will quote Alex here, “This is a neat little project that I’m really excited for!” That sort of attitude that no matter how big or small the project, Alex is determined to make it happen.

Keep in mind that this entire project involves Alex taking a mold of the OEM Center Console, and getting creative with deleting and recessing the components (No Templates over here Skip)!!!

I’m pleased to share with you all now the finished product! It’s crazy how light this piece weighs (I’m talking not even 2 pounds!!). Enjoy the entire progress of how it turned out:

A very special thank-you goes out to Alex@Spage Sport for his vision in creating a really cool racing part! Alex’s hardwork, creativity, and passion in his profession will definitely always be recognized! Aside from him building my STi Dry Carbon Wide Body Kit, I will have Alex build some additional interior Dry Carbon Components for me, as they look incredibly cool!

For now, the Center Console will be off to see Steven@Elevated Auto to get Clear Bra’d and Ceramic Coated for extra protection and durability!

Thank-you all for stopping by and stay tuned for next update!

Looking real good! I always love to see when people think outside the box a bit and don't just slap a bunch of parts as is on a car. Nothing wrong with that approach but personal touches or things that are standout to the owner that most wouldn't do or haven't thought of is welcome.

Haha Shhhh Alex, I'm not caught up yet

Hi everyone and welcome back to my journal!

This update takes place in August 2020.

Last update I hinted at a picture of my car getting some Paintless Dent Removal (PDR) work. That, along with a list of other things will be addressed in that update.

With the freshly painted bumper still in its wrapping and inside the car, I had Steven drive my car back from Excellence Auto Collision to his shop, Elevated Auto.

Steven will be doing the following work:

1) Spage Sport Dry Carbon Center Console
a) Clear Bra with XPEL Ultimate Plus
b) Ceramic Coat overtop with XPEL Fusion Plus

2) Front Bumper
a) Clear Bra with XPEL Ultimate Plus

3) Front Kidney Grilles
a) Clear Bra with XPEL Ultimate Plus
b) Ceramic Coat overtop with XPEL Fusion Plus

4) Orange Reflectors
a) Clear Bra with XPEL Ultimate Plus
b) Ceramic Coat overtop with XPEL Fusion Plus

5) Front Windshield
a) Tint with XPEL Prime XR Black 45%
b) Add Elevated Auto Window Banner with Avery Dennison Satin Black

6) Hood Vents
a) Wrap with Avery Dennison Gloss Black

7) Hard Motorsport Carbon Fiber Door Latches
a) Clear Bra with XPEL Ultimate Plus
b) Ceramic Coat overtop with XPEL Fusion Plus

Please enjoy the pictures of the work being performed:

Incredible work if you ask me, especially the difference that Clear Bra made on the Orange Reflectors!!

I’m always happy having Steven@Elevated Auto perform work on my car, he’s definitely amongst the best in Toronto in his field of work, and the only person I trust working on my car!

Steven removed the front bumper again, and threw it back in my car for Usic@Total Motor Werkes to install it.

While at Elevated Auto, Steven and I invited our friend Deron@Magic Dent Repair Ltd., to come by the shop and touch up a dent on my driver door that occurred prior to me owning the car.

Deron has done work for me before on my beloved Subaru, and he’s definitely the top person in Paintless Dent Removal (PDR) in Toronto.

He has been in the industry for over 10 years, and I'm super excited to have him work on my car.

His business model is simple:
- Quick turnaround (1-3 hours typically)
- No paintwork necessary
- No harmful chemicals
- Only specialized tools are used for the PDR

These all checked off in my books, here’s him in action working on Sky:

Thanks again to Deron for fixing the dent and making Sky perfect again!

Lastly, seeing as I am repairing the whole front end of the car piece by piece, my OEM Felt Undertray was pretty beat up. I decided to purchase a Turner Motorsport Aluminum Skid Plate.

While it is one of the heavier options on the market, I’m happy knowing that it’s of the highest quality and sturdiness.

The Skid Plate along with all of the previous parts you’ve seen will be installed by Usic@Total Motor Werkes.

Thank-you all for stopping by! You’re not going to want to miss the next update…as Charles Barkley says, “I GUARANTEE IT!

Are u doing rear spherical conversion next? If you need the tapered washers for the rear wishbones and guide rods outboard bushes, I have some spare sets I made up recently.

@reidetailing I have almost the same car except its '11 with DCT. I will be modifying it but I WON'T be chronicling it like you. You are impressive with the detail.

I was lucky to get a single owner car with low mileage that was near perfect. I'll be doing suspension 1st then wheels. After that I'll probably upgrade the audio and MMI.

It's great to such a passionate owner.
