I went to my local BMW approved body shop to get an estimate for LCI conversion all parts and labor supplied by them. This was for new trunk, taillights, emblems, paint and labor.

Parts
2098.12
Body Labor
9.8 hrs @ $ 50.00/hr
490.00
Paint Labor
8.2 hrs @ $ 50.00/hr
410.00
Paint Supplies
8.2 hrs @ $ 30.00/hr
246.00
Sublet/Misc.
7.00
----------------------------------------------------
SUBTOTAL
$ 3251.12
----------------------------------------------------
GRAND TOTAL
$ 3251.12

Granted... this included a lot of paint blending on the c pillars and qtr panels etc which I doubt is necessary. But interesting nonetheless.

For that price go to IND and get a CSL lid painted plus a rear diffuser. Again total cost for me is less than $1k but I am a perfectionist and wanted no scratches and a perfect color match so I had my lid resprayed. To get it painted was only $400 and that included prep, color match and wetsand/polish. A good bodyshop should be able to match the lid without having to blend. More time spent with sample color matches buy at least you are not painting body panels that do not need painting and risk overspray.

I agree. I don't care for the CSL look, but do like the LCI lights. I just installed some blacklines so that will tide me over for a while. Might keep a look out for a JB trunklid in the meantime. Yours looks great.

Also, a picture with the Lci conversion with the non-led lights as I am still waiting for those to come in.

Is it just the R/H side Wiring Plug that needs wiring to be to be changed or L/H side too?

UK LCI update problems

This is the BMW dealer response in the UK - I guess it may be the same in the US; I have an enquiry in with an independent dealer - who generally are a little bit more amenable! I also don’t like to give up without a fight. So before I fit a couple of resistors on either side 2 resistors for the outer section: 1 for the turn signal, and 1 for the rear light that comes on the night lights.
see this link USA in the UK pop along to Maplins

http://www.eautoworks.com/product-Led-33226.htm

I will wait and see what the independent dealer says

The light cluster[s] that fit in the boot/trunk Lid can be wired by reversing the wires as suggested or you can buy a small wiring harness bridge BMW genuine part see this link below (Note: This cable is for lid boot/trunk lid only lights not the ones in the rear wing.
Retrofit cable set, Facelift lights BMW PTNo. 61 12 2 150 786

http://bmwfans.info/parts/catalog/E9...s_lci_2008/#01

I have taken out the dealer name and location, but I can confirm that it was in Yorkshire -thats the largest County in the UK for any US readers LOL

"Thank you for your enquiry about the modification of the rear light units on your BMW vehicle.
Firstly I would apologise for the slight delay in my response but I wanted to carry out additional research on the matter as there is no recognised BMW retrofit option for this work.
I have done an amount of research on this subject and can summarise my conclusions as follows:

There is no retrofit kit available from BMW or any instructions on how this could be done.
BMW do not recommend this repair and would not offer any warranty for this type of repair.
Sxxxxxl would not code out the bulb warning as this is an integral part of the car electronics.

Sxxxxxl xxxxx would be willing to connect your car through its MOST bus system to our programming equipment, this way we could establish if any upgrade could be made to the system to enable the warning system to recognise the rear led lights thus warning of any LED faults instead of Bulb failures.
When the car is connected to Program the car with the necessary changes a couple of points should be noted.
The programming could take anything between 1 - 12 hours which would incur an unspecified charge to yourself
If the programming crashes and any components are required then these will be chargeable to yourself.
We cannot guarantee in any way what the outcome of the programming would be nor do we accept any liability for any complications caused as a direct result of any programming carried out for this repair.
We strongly recommend that the car remains the standard specification."

If any one has any ideas, they would be welcome, Carsoft & Baverian Tech software will not do it, not even proffesional versions, I guess GT1 would but costs about £500.0 with a T30 Laptop from China plus shipping fee of £40.00.

Yeah, I only showed the picture for the Rt side of the trunk lights, but you need to do the Lt as well. Just mirror the order for the other side.

You can get rid of the error codes for the inner trunk lights by re arranging the order of the wires like pictured.

Check this link for BME cable that will reverse your wiring.

Ok, I can see it on my iPhone just not on my work PC. I am familiar with this cable part # 61122150786. It is listed at REALOEM but when I try to purchase online at Tischer, no part comes up with that part #. This is for the inner lights anyway. It's the outer tails that are a pain.

Exclamation UPDATE:

Been getting alot of pm's regarding this LCI retrofit. So here it is. If I were someone interested in this at this point, I would recomend waiting for BMW to release a retrofit cable. There was a cable available last year(EU) that shows up as dicontinued now. If you are still persistant and want to do this on your '08 E90, well it might or might not work properly depending on yoour light control module LCM. I used all OEM parts, found a dealer willing to reflash the car to accomidate the LED tails and the lights funtion perfectly(no fast blinking, reverse lights work, rear fogs work etc.) The only thing that I still have to figure out is why after the car warms up, I will get a bulb out warning that goes away even though there isn't any bulbs out. Now, depending on your production date and the LCM, you may or may not have this small nuisance.

Some great info here. If I ever do get round to buying an E90 M3 and its NON LCI this will greatly help. Cheers.

Hey, I'm at the part where I'm re-arranging the cables on the harness for the LCI wiring. Opened the door to the plastic case for the yellow, green, brown and blue cable but I can't get the wires out of it. Can you tell me how you did it?

This is for rear LCI tails (introduced on the E90 in 09.) Headlights have been the same for all E9x M3s since introduction.

One more question then, an m3 coupe and m3 sedan have the same headlight fitment? As in the same part?

Same headlamp in both Coupe and Sedan.

I am sure this question has been asked already, but currently I am in a situation where I can buy a brand new m3 Sedan. Sad as this sounds the halos on my current 2011 335xi coupe look amazing and I really dont like the style on the M3. Can a pair of headlights from an e92 fit an m3 since the headlight is the same for the coupe m3 and sedan?

Thanks for your help

They are the same. If you wanted to do the LCI conversion, you'd only need to change the 2008 trunk to the 2009+ LCI trunk, as well as the LCI tail lamps and coding/harnesses.

If you're talking about the 2011 E92 LCI headlamps, no they will not fit the M3. They are a different shape, not to mention different coding. Sucks that M3 owners didn't get at least the OEM bright white halo's
