Just Passing Through -- I-30 to DFW area then on to Lubbock

So I'm being relocated from Alexandria, VA to Lubbock, TX. My wife and I (and our two dogs) will be driving through w/our X5 w/a Thule Terrapin Cargo container out back and my M3 loaded up.

How's enforcement through the state?

Is there aggressive enforcement? I'd prefer to just be under the radar, so to speak, as we traverse these states. What are current conditions and are there any standard speed trap areas out there?

Hoping to stop by MPorium in Dallas and pick up one of the fancy under trays for my M3 (assuming I can fit it in one of the vehicles!).

Thanks!

Speed enforcement isn't terrible. Maybe further west of DFW. Be prepared for long west Texas boring roads. Driving at night closer to Lubbock watch for coyotes and deer.

Dean at M Porium is a solid dude. The shop is tucked away but his tray is worth the drive lol.

I took the southern route in August. the 84 split to go north to lubbock is pretty boring but watch for texas highway patrols later in the afternoon.

the norther route looks faster but I was heading west so that's why i went south of lubbock.

the only thing that is for sure is front plates. i don't have one and got lucky and didn't get pulled over but since your plates aren't texas it shouldn't be a problem.

Thanks. Critters are a hazard. I always look for glowing eyes in the ditches/sides of the road.

Virginia requires a front plate. Thanks for the tip on afternoon patrols.

Do they run Ka radar or also K (hopefully not X as I’ve coded that out of my V1’s,)?

Yes (prescription), yes (moving company won’t ship), and yes, general concern.

Don’t drive east on 40 through Arizona with that attitude. I’ve seen many a car with a yard sale on the side of the road courtesy of the AZ department of public safety (seems mostly around Flagstaff). Looking for recreational weed from Vegas or California is my guess. I wonder what their probable cause is to search or how they con people into giving up their rights against unreasonable searches...

fWIW, all ammo and short guns in trunk in locked containers. Longer stuff only fits one way in X5 but they’re in locked cases under the dog beds. Could loose a finger or two getting past the dogs to look under their beds.

In all likelihood I don’t drive fast enough to draw attention from anyone anymore. I’m old.

Not feasible to lock every gun and all ammo up. Would amount to a padlock on the back of the truck. Guess I cant move.

Job is too much of a time suck for that. I'll be putting the M3 up for sale soon...

I'm actually working in Carlsbad, NM but with the oil boom nonsense, all I could find was a 1-bdrm apartment and I'm lucky to have that. I set my wife up in Lubbock in a house and I commute on the weekends. The M3 isn't conducive to the daily work commute or the weekend commute, to be honest. Big trucks rule the roads between Lubbock and Carlsbad.

The only sensible solution is to turn the E90 into a track car and get a DD. Track during those rare times where you have time. Or, maybe you can sell to me

How many miles? DCT?

I was looking for a nice red E90 DCT for my wife but couldn't find one. Ended up leasing a 320iX.

Well damn. Need the wife mode.

I like the flappy paddles. But having a manual E46 satisfies any heel toe downshift urges which is becoming less common as I get older.
